*Hey guys so I just wanted to say that I am sooooo happy to be back and I am excited to see where this story will go!
*Nevelyn's POV*
We when arrived at Hogwarts I couldn't help but feel safe. The way the large wooden doors shut behind us and the warm lights illuminated the hallways made me feel at home; something I haven't felt since I was young. I awoke from my thoughts when Mrs. Weasley spoke to me, "Nevelyn this is Professor McGonagall. She is going to walk you to your grandfather's office." I nodded ok and Prof. McGonagall grabbed my hand after a fair warning from Mrs. Weasley that I am startled easily. At the hospital I hadn't even realized I was screaming as much as I was. I guess it was just nerves."So Nevelyn have you ever heard of Hogwarts?"
"Yes, my mother spoke very highly of it. She said it would be the best years of my life," I said thinking of mum. It made me sad but I learned to not cry in front of others. It was a habit I quickly learned when I was being tortured. On the way to the office I couldn't help but notice all of the moving paintings and students staring at me. After a short walk and a strange word that made me giggle, a spiral staircase appeared and I was told to 'go on'.
"Nevelyn it's good to see you. We have a lot to discuss so please sit."
I sat down in a fluffy chair and started to speak. "Hi Papa I-" he cut me off.
"Please child I have a limited amount of time and this is an important matter. The term at Hogwarts began months ago and you are not yet of age so we will have you stay in spare chambers next to Professor McGonagall's. Your safety is most important so through out the day you will stay with a teacher."
I just nodded in understanding and was about to ask a question, but was turned down.....again.
"This is Professor Snape. I should hope that you remember him from earlier. He will escort you to the dungeons where you will spend the day with him." Spending the day with him didn't look too fun especially with that always present scowl. Snape walked past me towards the door and muttered a 'follow me'. I got out of my chair and turned to wave to Papa but he was already gone. I annoyed him even when I thought I'd been good. Then again I could never do anything right.
The dungeon was cold and damp just like our cell in the Malfoy Manor. I shuddered as we entered his classroom. Snape tossed a small cloak at me which I gratefully accepted. In his first class I learned that Snape wasn't the students' favorite teacher. He was heartless and always seemed annoyed. I couldn't help but chuckle when two red headed twins slipped some wrong ingredients into their couldren and made a gooey glob rather then a sleeping potion. They looked at me when I laughed, obviously oblivious to the fact that I was sitting behind Snape's desk. The one on the left winked at me and I could feel my cheeks growing hot. It was short lived though as I remembered the Deatheater's words 'nobody could love you, you ugly worthless mudblood'. I was worthless. I was a mudblood. I believed everything they said, and I would always believe what they said. They told me that my mum was going to get food and I believed them. I was only 7. She never came back after that. A tear slipped from my eye and I snapped out of my thoughts when Snape spoke.
"There are no tears in my class Nevelyn."
I sniffled and decided to speak against my better judgement, "Laci, my mum always called me Laci." I looked up at him and noticed his class was gone, but his scowl was still there. To my surprise he said, "Laci it is then." I spent the rest of my day in Snape's class and to my delight I learned a great deal. His class seemed easy though and I almost fell out of my chair when Another first year named Oliver almost screwed up his third attempt at a love potion, but lucky for him I knew how to fix it. He was sitting in the front desk so I leaned over mine and whispered, "Add the rose petals after the spider's heart." He sighed in relief as his potion turned a sickly pink rather than black.
"Thanks! What's your name by the way I don't think I have ever seen you around?"
"I'm Laci," I replied avoiding his attempt at a handshake. "I don't go to school yet I'm too young." He was about to ask more questions but Snape came over to examine his potion.
"15 points from Gryffindor Mr. Wood. I suggest you learn how to make a simple potion yourself without the help of a 10 year old," Snape said clenching his teeth. "As for you Laci I trust that you can keep your mouth shut for the rest of the day." I nodded quickly and sank back into my chair. Oliver mouthed sorry to me but I pretended to not notice. If this was what each day was to be like then I had a long school year ahead of me.
At the end of classes Snape told me it was time for dinner and then I'd be shown to my new chambers. I got out of my seat and started for the door when he actually spoke directly to me, and it wasn't even cruelly.
"Laci how did you know how to fix his potion?" I shifted uncomfortably and had a gut feeling that he wouldn't like my answer. "Laci answer me, I'm rather curious."
"It was in your head sir." I ducked my head and waited to be slapped or cursed.
"My head? You know how to read what's in my head." I could hear the anger that he tried to mask underneath what he thought was a calm tone.
In hopes of relieving his anger I said, "Not just your head sir. I knew what everyone else was thinking too." With that we went on a speedy walk towards the Great Hall in which I had no time to admire because I was promptly seated next to Professor McGonagall and watched as Snape stalked off to what I assumed was Papa's office.
In my new room I laid on my bed, something I haven't had since I was much younger. I reflected on my day and thought that Snape wasn't so terrible, but I definitely wasn't terribly sad to stay with a different teacher tomorrow.
