lost | aonung

synopsis: after bonding with your ilu for the first time, you go and explore the ocean. but you lose track of time and end up not being able to find your way back. but aonung saves you.

disclaimer: i'm going to be using she/her pronouns! if anybody wants me to change it to they/them for future oneshots, lmk!!☺️

no one's pov:
it was y/n's first time on an ilu, she found it completely magical. the bond between na'vi and ilu, the speed they swim, the quick breaths of air, just magical.

y/n had started swimming with her ilu a few hours before the eclipse, she knew that she was needed home before dark so she didn't get a lot of time to explore.

"you can explore y/n, but please be back before eclipse, and don't go near the reef.. please" aonung insisted on keeping y/n safe.
he of course wanted her to have her freedom, but he also had to keep and eye of y/n.

"yes yes aonung i get it" y/n said with an eager attitude to swim.
she tapped aonungs shoulder before bonding with her new ilu.
"byee" she waved at him while diving into the blue sea. aonung couldn't help but be worried or anxious. he knew that she can get carried away at times, especially when she is excited about something.
but he didn't want to ruin her fun so he put his trust in that she'll return back safely.

but he was wrong..

~a few hours later~
the sky was dark, the eclipse happened at least an hour ago, but y/n was no where to be found.
she had been exploring the ocean, forgetting or maybe even dismissing aonungs rules. she had lost track of time and didn't realize she was in a dangerous place.
she was swimming at a fast pace with her ilu before she could feel her ilus breath getting heavy, she knew he was tired and needed a break.

so she went to the surface, to see the night sky and literally nothing around her. no shores, no rocks, no nothing. she panicked realizing the time of day and her unknown location.
"fuck fuck" she whispered in anxiety. her heart beat racing and her eyebrows furrowed.

she went back underwater to try and remember where she came from, or to at least see anything familiar. she looked for about half an hour before her ilu was getting really tired. her as well.
luckily they found a rock that she could sleep on. she breathed heavily getting off of her ilu and onto the rock. her back against the rock with her arms spread widely.
it was cold and dark.
she hated it.

she had now been stranded on a rock, in the middle of the ocean, in the middle of the night, freezing her blue tail off.
she tried getting some sleep but couldn't.

a few hours had passed and now she was genuinely terrified. she was about to let out a few tears before she hears a sound in the distance

"y/n! y/n!" she recognized the voice, it was aonung.

relief flushed through her body as she immediately stood up and waved her arms in the air.
"i'm here!! i'm here!!!" she yelled at the top of her lungs.

~back at the village~
y/n returned safely to the village behind aonung on his ilu. many people were awake wondering what the commotion was about.

"aonung!" ronal yelled out to him as he and
y/n were coming out of the water.
y/n could feel the tension coming from aonungs parents.
"i am very disappointed aonung, it was your responsibility to keep y/n safe, and you failed" tonowari said with a upset tone.
aonung looked down in shame and guilt.
y/n looked over to see aonungs saddened face and turned to his parents.

ronal looked down on aonung "now go back to your rooms"

aonung walked away into the village with y/n following behind.
aonungs aura was very guilty looking.
"hey wait" y/n reached over and grabbed aonungs shoulder, facing him toward her.

"i'm sorry aonung" she looked at him with an apologetic face.

"for what y/n, it was my fault.." he looked down trying to avoid eye contact.

"no it wasn't.. you told me to be back before eclipse and i didn't listen."

"yeah but still, i should've followed you or went to check up on you, and now my parents are so disappointed with me i don't know what i'm going to do"
aonung sat himself on docking mats with his feet in the water. he looked down in defeat.

y/n sat beside in and put her head on his shoulder. aonung was a little startled at first but calmed down after a few seconds. he then put his head on hers.

"i'm sorry aonung, it must be hard having so many expectations from your parents" y/n softly said intertwining her hands with his.

"yeah it is.. but thank you y/n, for comforting me"
she felt aonungs smile before they both closed their eyes and felt each others warm bodies under the night sky.
