"Why isn't he here yet?!" Gong Jun steps a little away from Xu Kai and Xu Kai roughly yanks him back, closer to his space.
"We'll leave in a few if he doesn't come. We can't waste any more time. If they notify the police-"
"I'm not leaving before he comes back and takes me with-"
"Enough!" Xu Kai interrupts him harshly, "Wake up, Gong Jun! If you keep being stubborn, none of us will leave this place alive! They'll kill all three of us, do you fucking understand?!"
Gong Jun doesn't nod or agree, he only stares at Xu Kai, refusing to move further.
"Gong Jun." Xu Kai nudges his arm, "Junjun, this is Commander Zhang's order, don't make it difficult for me."
"I won't leave without-"
A distant gunshot sound echoes in the woods, completely silencing Gong Jun. His heart throbs in panic, it sinks down slowly, every beat suddenly hurts. He looks beyond the dark trees and then at Xu Kai, maybe he'd give him a little comfort, yet he sees the same horror in his eyes. It takes Gong Jun a while to realize what could've happened, and then;
"Zhehan..." He whispers under his breath, taking one step then two, and he starts running back. Pointy branches and rough leaves and dirty mud and sharp rocks don't slow him down.
"NO!" Xu Kai screams, "Gong Jun!"
And no loudness of Xu Kai's pleas could stop Gong Jun. He keeps running as he hears more gunshots, lifting his head up to the stars he just wished he could be, hoping that the universe will have mercy on them both even when they've broken each and every one of its laws.
He suddenly stops when he sees himself reaching the field, he's hesitant and scared, unable to see beyond the darkness of the night. He hears another gunshot and prays the bullets aren't piercing Zhehan's body, that none of those bullets scraped, or passed by Zhehan's skin. But before he can take another step forward, someone catches Gong Jun from behind and kicks the back of his knees, forcing him to the ground; "I found him!"
Gong Jun doesn't feel the pain. He shoves the man off and tries to stand up and run again, but another man strikes him with the back end of the long gun, shouting; "Sir, we found him!"
Zhehan glimpses back to see soldiers dragging Gong Jun forward in the mud; "No... No..." He mutters quietly and looks at Jiang Xia whose leg is injured and bleeding; Zhehan points the gun to his head, "Tell them to let him go..."
Jiang Xia smirks despite his pain, proud to finally catch a glimpse of fear on Zhehan's face.
"Gong Jun! Why the fuck did you come here?! I told you to-" Zhehan exhales, "Don't hurt him, let him go... He's young and he's done nothing."
"Zhehan-" Gong Jun tries to call for him to explain only to be struck again. Zhehan's heart twists in his chest.
"Let him go." Zhehan repeats, "Jiang Xia, I'll give you whatever you want, just let him go. Don't hurt him, please."
"Oh?" Jiang Xia limps forward, aiming his gun towards Gong Jun, "What can you do, Commander Zhang? How dare you still plead after what you've done? Hiding him, obstructing justice... And only Heaven knows what you do together at night. You and the sheets and everything you touched must be burnt after we kill you so it won't spread-"
"Enough!"
Zhehan has never felt such dread before. The thought of losing Gong Jun suffocates him; the thought alone. He wouldn't want to witness a scene where Gong Jun is getting hurt, or worse, he wouldn't want to live in a world where he isn't there. Is this his fault? Was he too careless? Was his love too strong that it couldn't be kept hidden inside?
