The flight across the great ocean had been longer than I thought it would be. It looked a shorter distance on the map than it had actually been. Seraph did his best to stay in the air through the storms that we had to fly through.Day and night we flew with nothing in sight. Something I thought we were heading in the wrong direction or miss the cluster of islands entirely.
On the fourth day I had run out of water.
On the fifth day of our journey we say the first island, but Seraph kept flying as we passed it. Determined to fly until we found the island that Norm had shown us.
At the end of the fifth day we finally reached the island Norm had shown us just before eclipse had started. A horn sounded as we crossed over the reef barrier. As we landed in the sand a crowd had gathered around us.
Seraph hissed and barred his fangs and the villagers of the island crowded around us, their weapons tightly clenched in their hands.
I stayed on top of Seraph, ready to command him to take off into the sky at a moments notice.
A large man pushed through the crowd, a pregnant woman by his side. He was the clan leader, if I had to guess. He wore the garments of a clan leader. The woman beside him was likely his mate, the Tsahìk of their tribe.
I greeted them politely, but still did not move from Seraph's back.
"Why have you come?" The clan leader asked. His body was tense as he looked at Seraph, at the way he was hissing and growling at anyone that came near.
"I'm here to find something my clan has lost." The crowd around us began to murmur.
"I'm afraid you have flown a long way for nothing." The Tsahìk said, her hand cradling her swollen belly. "You will not find what you seek here."
Doubt began to form in my mind. Maybe Norm had pointed me in the wrong direction or I had landed on the wrong island.
"I'm sorry for the intrusion, I'll leave right away." Seraph began turn toward the sea when I voiced shouted at me from the back of the crowd.
"Äeya!" My heart swelled as little Tuk pushed through the crowd, Kiri and Neytiri following close behind her.
Sliding down from Seraph's back quickly, I knelt in the sand as Tuk crashed into me, throwing her arms around my neck.
"I knew you would come!" I laughed as she squealed out the words. "I knew you would!"
"I told you I would always be there didn't I?" My hand buried in her braids as I held her close, touching my forehead against her own. Releasing her, I rose to my feet and greeted Neytiri with a shy smile. "I'm sorry it took me so long."
"Who is this girl?" The Tsahìk asked, looking between the three of us.
"Family." Neytiri said simply, pulling me into a hug.
The crowd began to disperse, leaving only the six of us standing on the beach. "We've already asked so much, but we would be grateful if you allowed her to stay. She will learn your ways like the rest of us."
The Ole'eyktan nodded despite his mates obvious objection.
"She will learn our ways, I'm sure our son and daughter wouldn't mind one more student." I bowed my head gratefully and watched as the pair walked back to their village.
After collecting my things off Seraph's back, I took his saddle from him to let him rest properly.
"I will see you soon, my brave warrior."
