Going into my senior year of high school, I knew that things would be different. Having moved across the country in just 3 weeks really took a toll on me. My parents are very impulsive people. When they've had one too many drinks, anything could happen, which explains their sudden interest in moving all the way to small rural town in North Dakota.
I've never been used to the cold. Back in Santa Fe, it was burning all year, like a hot griddle. Before we moved, I'd only seen snow once, and it was a few flurries that fell to the ground and melted, so even an inch of snow felt like I was suffocating in ice. When I was i the airport, I was confused by people in large puffy coats, scarves and snow boots, but I think im starting to understand the new climate.Even in New Mexico I was seen as an unusual person. I was just the short, quiet girl that no one understood. Being moved up a grade in middle school really set up everything that would happen for the rest of my life; get called a nerd, a loner, weird, emo and eventually just drop out. I know this because it's exactly what happened to my mom. She was once an outstanding student with a bright future ahead of her, but the stress of moving up caused her to drop out and become an irresponsible alcoholic with no job. I know the same will happen to me.
