━━━━━♥♠♣♦━━━━━"Registration has closed. There are a total of six participants. The game will now commence. Difficulty: Eight of Clubs."
Four days have passed since Yumie went to her apartment to gather her things. In those four days, the three adults did nothing but rest. Even altogether, they didn't engage in enjoyable conversation. Any time any of them talked, it was serious.
The venue for the game they were playing took place at Tokyo Detention Centre, a prison. Yumie was fairly familiar with the place, as she would interview her clients for research. Many criminals there were on death row.
Her time there consisted of interrogating, observing, and profiling criminals. She enjoyed it but now that she had realized how dark she was, it felt wrong. Now, she saw the similarities between herself and her clients.
"Eight of Clubs?" Nezumi squeaked at the high level of difficulty.
Upon entering the prison, collars with glasses were placed next to the phones. Everyone who was participating had them latched onto their necks, unable to be removed.
It was choking, coiling around their necks. They felt trapped.
"Game: Night Vision. Rule: When the game starts, all electricity will shut off and phones will be switched to dark mode. One person will be able to see in the dark and has to lead the rest of the players to the roof. Clear condition: Reach the helicopter pad within the time limit. You clear the game when this objective is fulfilled. Time limit, one hour."
Yumie stepped up, and volunteered, "I work at this place, I know my way around."
A man looked her up and down and shook his head. "You expect me to believe you?"
The female snake was about to bear her fangs at him, but Tadami stopped her from doing so. "No, Yumie. The game is choosing who gets to see in the dark."
She stopped and looked down at her phone, which was randomizing the names already. Her brows furrowed in concern. The wrong person would lead all of them to death. She was perfectly capable of carrying out this task, Yumie knew this damn prison like the back of her hand.
The snake tensed for a millisecond after the name finally appeared.
Hime Nezumi.
All heads turned to the mouse, who was tense with fear. "I... I can't-" she was cut off by the lights shutting down.
Everyone stood still for a few minutes, trying to see if adjusting to the darkness was possible. It wasn't.
"Screw this, we're wasting time," the man who doubted Yumie spat. Yumie heard his footsteps against the floor, gradually becoming more and more distant.
"You're wasting your own time, going the wrong way and all."
She then heard another pair of footsteps, more frantic. "Wait, sir. Don't-"
The man began to cry out, accompanied by the sound of zapping. A white glow formed an outline around him, letting everyone glimpse the room around them.
The frantic footsteps had belonged to Nezumi, who failed to save the man.
"There are traps here," Nezumi explained, panicked. Now that someone had already died due to her lack of leadership, people were less trusting of her.
A feminine voice snarled, "Then why didn't you tell us?!"
"I wasn't- I wasn't sure what it was. And you didn't give me time to explain, either," the mouse defended.
