"Spanish is the most romantic language," Ms Mondez said and immediately there were murmurs among the class.
"...although some people would disagree, " she added quickly.
"French is the most romantic language, in fact everything about France and the French is romantic..even the food," Lana Morts said.
Not surprising, everyone knew about Lana's obsession with France.. She even dressed like a French lady
"could be true, but Spanish women are sexy like Ms Mondez, " Darren chirped in and his statement earned murmurs of agreement from the boys.
Ms Mondez however tried to quieten down the class but with no success as her cheeks had turned the color of my blouse.
"imagine a Spanish woman saying Mi amor.. The most romantic words ever, "Gregory..football captain.
"what are you? 76 year oldie... Of course you get that from telenovelas.. Think of it this way blond, blue-eyed French man saying món amore.. By far the most romantic," Lana again..
Darren laughed, "you'd only say that cause you're obsessed with French.. Why didn't you just take the class? You'd have been fine in there..."
At this point Ms Mondez had given up
"i obviously picked French class but they wouldn't let me take it cause the moment i said bonjour they thought I was French.."
"as if, the only thing French about you is your silly berets" Greg.
"my berets are not silly... They're classy, something you'd never understand with your smelly varsity jacket, do you even wash it.. "
At that point the voices that were heard among the noise in the class were Lana and Greg's also Darren constantly chipping in.
Ms Mondez had retired to her chair and put on her glasses.. Latinas
I turned to look at Kyle who was jotting down something in his journal, notepad or sketchpad.. Didn't really know but it was a perfect sight.. His jade eyes so still and mysterious.. I remembered the first day I saw him, walking down the hallway of fairwood elementary school.
" I know whom I'm going to marry"
"who? " Becky said popping gum into her mouth.
"that boy, " i gestured towards Kyle.
"mmm green eyed boy.. he's alright I guess. As for me, I'll marry a popstar"
"yeah you do that.. he's not green eyed.. His eyes are blue.. And he's more than just alright, he's perfect. " not even for a second did my eyes leave him.
"well the eyes seem green to me" Becky shrugged.
At that moment he walked right past us and acknowledged us with a smile. My heart did a backflip immediately. I knew that no matter what Kyle would always be my first love/crush...or forever love I hoped.. And that wish had come true.. Forever one sided love...
"so did you see? " Becky.
"see what? " i was puzzled.
" the color of his eyes duh..."
"oh, wasn't paying attention but they're most definitely blue. "
Becky smacked her forehead, "tracy, Tracy, tracy..."
"what? " look of surprise.
"you're hopeless "
But honestly I didn't care. I'd found my crush my life would be perfect.. Or so I thought until Kyle was paired with Gretchen in our math class. When she twirled her hair around her finger when talking to him... Her perfect silky hair... We were 4th graders but I'd seen my neighbor Jenny do it whenever she was talking to Cole from across the street and he always smiled at her whenever she did it... To me a boy smiling at you after that meant he liked you so I stomped my feet under the desk seething with frustration. The only comfort i got was in that I couldn't see Kyle's face since it was turned from me so whether he smiled at Gretchen's actions, still clueless to this day. But since that time I knew I wasn't the only one "wishing to marry Kyle." and when she caught me staring at him in class, the rivalry began... My arch nemesis.....
".....over... Homework on page 68" Ms Mondez's voice snapped me out of memory lane.
I stood up and was already walking out of the classroom when someone stopped me.
"Tracy!"
Kyle! The heck...
I literally froze to my spot..
