Percy Jackson had a pretty shitty couple of weeks.
Going to school - that was unbearable enough. He had to deal with Nancy Bobofit and other stuck-up, stinkingly rich kids' bullshit. His best friend, Grover Underwood has been bullied by Pippi Longstocking's look-alike. He had gone on a field trip with his class to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where he decapitated Mrs. Dodds - a really loathsome pre-algebra teacher who turned out to be leathery winged, bat-like woman - who disintegrated into dust after he swiped a fucking sword (it was a ballpoint pen at first!) at her which Mr. Brunner (a Latin teacher at Yancy Academy, Percy's favorite one) threw at him.
After all of this, it seemed as if everyone teamed up against him. Even his best and only friend, Grover. Students and teachers would make him question his sanity when they were saying, that Mrs. Dodds never existed and there was only Mrs. Kerr.
Who the fuck was Mrs. Kerr anyway?
Getting himself expelled after calling an English teacher, Mr. Nicoll, an old sot (what does that even mean? Percy for sure didn't know, but it sounded good, so he wasn't complaining) wasn't ideal, but he was getting homesick either way. Skipping Mr. Brunner and his friend's secret conversation about "the Summer Solstice deadline", a bus wreck, creepy grandmas knitting blue socks of death, Grover being a weirdo and stubborn about taking him to some camp (what the hell means half-blood?), Smelly Gabe, that son of a bitch, Percy actually had one thing that made his life better.
His only solace, his mom.
Sally Jackson was an angel on earth. She was so kind, and never said anything inappropriate to anyone. She even put up with Gabe the cunt Ugliano (more like Uglyass). In his humble opinion, she should get an award for that! Her compassion, strength, and beauty could rival the noblest and most stunning person in the whole world. Her hugs were the best, they could comfort you whenever you'd go through hard times. Her presence made you feel secure, and out of harm's way. There really was no better person out there.
After a piece of contentment, reality hit Percy hard.
He was supposed to enjoy three days in Montauk with his beloved mom in their rental cabin, but because his name's Percy Jackson trouble always seemed to find him.
The day after they arrived, Percy woke up startled. The sound of wind roaring, thunderclaps rumbling, and waves crashing against the dunes was a sign of-
"Hurricane!"
The idea of a hurricane so early in the summer on long island was screwed up enough. But a sound of distant bellowing was something that took Percy aback. The hollering was so horrifying that he could feel goosebumps form on his forearms. Then, much closer, a muffled cry of fear.
A sudden bang on the front door nearly made Percy jump out of his skin.
Sally in her nightgown dashed to the lock. Throwing open the door harshly, they saw Grover Underwood. Well, he wasn't exactly the same Grover Percy knew.
"Searching all night," he gasped. "What were you thinking?"
Don't get him wrong, he didn't mean to ignore Grover's question. He was just... preoccupied with, well, something else.
Percy's mom looked at her son in terror, but she wasn't scared of Grover, no. She was scared of why he'd come. If Percy wasn't so engrossed by... something, he'd definitely question his friend's action. Who in their right mind would walk (uh... trot?) all the way from the Upper East Side to Montauk?
Sally and Grover's screams barely heard over the rain, were suppressed by his thoughts. What was going on? Why was there a storm so early? Why was Grover so headstrong in getting him to some camp? Why were his mom and friend so scared? What were they hiding from him? What's the Summer Solstice deadline? Why the fuck nobody was telling him anything?!
