I remained on the cushioned seat outside the door labelled 456. A doctor dressed in a white cloak and a braid falling down her back knocked on the door and entered.

I thought nothing of it, it must've been just some doctor checking up on them.

A minute or so passed, and the doctor and Marie's mum hastily walked out.

What was going on? I just needed to calm down, it was nothing, I told myself, trying to persuade my brain that everything was alright, even though it wasn't. It was the opposite. It's like the sun and the rain. Or silence and loud heavy metal music booming through speakers. Or it's like saying a fruit fly and a human are similar, we aren't (although fruit flies do have some DNA that is similar to ours). I got out of my seat and walked up to the slightly frosted window and stared inside. Alex was sat crossed-legged on Marie's lap. She was telling him something and displaying a wide grin.

Her smile made me smile.

Her smile is beautiful, it makes me feel at peace.

And it's not just her smile. Everything about Marie makes me feel happy. Her passion, the way she cares for her brother, how she will help you no matter who you are, her laugh, her charisma. Just everything about her, inside and out.

I turned around and slumped back onto the chair. The hallway was filled with nothing but tranquillity. It was so quiet I could overhear something. A soft murmur coming round from the corner of the hall.

"When will he get out of it?" Someone asked with a slight hint of fear in their voice. The other person replied with,

"We don't actually know yet. I don't want to promise anything."

"But, will he be okay?" a slight quiver entered their voice.

I felt a feeling of slight guilt listening over someone else's conversation but that is what extreme boredom drives you to.

"I am afraid to say that we don't know for sure yet."

"I overheard my daughter ask if it could be fatal. And please be honest."

At first, I really didn't care about who these people were. Now I do. It must be Mrs. Mayers and that nurse. Marie is her daughter and she asked me in secret (obviously now it wasn't now) if the stab wound could lead to death.

So does that mean they don't know if her dad will be fine? I felt myself wishing hard that he would survive and heal A.S.A.P. I crossed my fingers as much as I could, I crossed my toes and legs and arms. I must have appeared to look like a tied up piece of shoelace. Luckily, no one was there to give me strange looks.

Honestly, I think he will be alright. He's not, well, dead yet. So perhaps that'll mean that he will be fine. I don't know, I'm not a doctor.

I heard the footsteps, presumably them, gradually getting louder and louder so I plopped myself back on the seat.

They walked right past me not even noticing I was there. It was like I was a ghost, invisible. I pulled out my phone from my hoodie's pocket, since I heard a quiet sound. It turned out to be a message from my mum. "I've just arrived. Where are you?" it stated, the black words shining brightly on my screen.

I recorded my voice, since I couldn't be bothered to type it all out, plus it was quicker.

"Umm... hi mum, I think we are like on the fourth floor. Errr, room 456, so yeah, fourth floor. I think there are signs to show you where to go."

Suddenly, just as I had sent the message, she started phoning me. Obviously, I accepted.

"Hey darling, I listened to your message, and I'm on my way. Are you with Marie?" She pondered, walking through the automatic sliding doors that allow you into the hospital.
