The poet sits alone in his chair
As he writes of the darkness that surrounds
His mind is deteriorating
As he struggles to keep his sanity sound.
He writes of the sadness and agony
That fills his heart and soul
He revels in the pain and suffering
As it consumes him whole
His sense of reality slips away
As he descends into the abyss
His heart grows cold and distant
As he finds solace in the darkness
But as his mind grows more peaceful
His eyes are opened to a world unseen
He sees the beauty in the sadness
And finds joy in the agony that's been
So he writes of the sadness and despair
That fills his being to the core
For in the darkness he finds solace
And in the pain he feels restored.
