Dreams Are a Fickle Thing

Dreams are a fickle thing
One night all of you're worst fears are combined
Fixed together like a perfect scare tactic
While others
You discover true love
Love so strong your mind can't tell if it's real
So strong that upon waking up the world is empty
You remember the sound of their heartbeat
As you lay on their chest
Tracing their imperfections
Humming a tune
You reminisce in that safe feeling
As they hold you close
Muttering words of affirmation
The circumstances were odd
Nothing made sense
The scenes were constantly changing
At one moment you're in the forest
The next a desert
But one thing stays the same
They stand next to you as if to say
I'm with you no matter the time

Dreams are a fickle thing
The moment you open your eyes
Dread fills your stomach
You miss them like an old lover gone too soon
You go back to sleep the next night
In hopes to enter a new world
Where true love meets you once more
Only to meet someone different
Something different
Never the same as before
