Chapter Eight

The drive to school starts in silence and Daniel is concentrating on the road, ignoring me completely. I'm just feeling the love.

It's been about 10 minutes since we left the house and the silence is killing me.
Like how Daniel killed that girl?
The realization hits me like a brick. What if Daniel tried to kill me?
Calm down, he won't. He saved you last night remember? Anyway, technically he wasn't the only one who killed that girl.
SHUT UP! I rage to my subconscious.
Fine, don't listen to me then. But don't say I didn't warn you.
I breathe a sigh of relief. That's one less thing to worry about. Now all I need to worry about is school and Daniel's friends. Just the thought of Daniel's friends makes me wince. I was just lucky that Daniel was there last night, otherwise I wouldn't be sitting here today.

I glance at my stepbrother who is still pointedly ignoring me.
"Thank you." I say softly.
Daniel glances towards me with a surprised expression on his face.
"For what?"
"For, you know, saving me last night."
He sighs and looks back at the road.
"I was hoping that you forgot about that."
"Well, it's not really something that you can forget." I laugh awkwardly.
Daniel scowls.
"You might've thought that it was a dream." He grumbles.
"Yes, well I didn't, I remembered, and I just wanted to thank you because I would have been dead if it weren't for you."

Silence fills the car again and I wonder if I said something wrong.
"Daniel?" I say tentatively.
"We will not talk about last night, understood?" He commands.
My heart falters.
"Yes, but, why?" I ask.
We are in front of the school now and Daniel parks the car, not answering my question. I don't want to pressure him, but I have to know.
"Well?" 
Daniel turns to face me and I gasp as I see that his eyes have changed to a blood red.
"You know to much, and if I find out that you have told anyone, I won't be there to save you next time. Got it?" He growls.
I nod meekly.

"Okay, good." He breathes a sigh of relief.
"I'm just going to leave now." I say awkwardly as I open the car door.
"Yes, yes. Do you want a ride home?" He asks nicely.
Well, I'm glad that he's changed moods, except it is kind of creepy.
"Um, no it's okay I'll walk. Good exercise you know."
Daniel nods and I exit the car.
God, I think that was possibly the most awkward car ride I have ever had. At least I won't have to endure that torture this afternoon. Although, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe a car ride with Daniel isn't as scary as starting at this school. The campus is huge and people are swarming in through the front doors. My stomach flips over and I gulp. I can do this, I can survive my first day. It will be as easy as riding a bike. The bell suddenly rings and I swear when I realize that I'm going to be late on my first day. Desperate, I hurry across the carpark, neglecting to look both ways. That was my first mistake. 

The pain is excruciating as the car hits me. My body goes flying through the air and slams onto the concrete ground. I can make out voices speaking over me and the sound of screaming. Wait an minute, it's me who is screaming! Ambulance alarms are blaring and my head throbs with each beat. My whole body feels as though it is on fire and I scream again. All I can see are blurry spots. Is this the end? Am I going to die? I can feel the motion of my body being picked up off the ground and gently placed on something. A stretcher perhaps?

The feeling of something wet and nice on my cheek fills my body with a tingling sensation.
"Fight, Amy, fight to live." A voice whispers.
Wait! My brain is screaming. Come back!
But the voice doesn't come back. My mind is exhausted and soon I'm engulfed with blackness.

I haven't updated this story in forever! I'm incredibly sorry but I've had writers block, which sucks so much. A PM and a comment inspired me to write more and I had no idea that Amy would be hit by a car! That was a spur of the moment decision that I haven't decided if I like or not.
