If you're here, you probably have some idea about the omegaverse already. But, uh, for the uninitiated... I thought a guide might be helpful?

In fact, even if you are familiar with ABO, not everything is consistent in each world since many different facets of abo exist (eg werewolf, Chinese interstellar abo (aka good sh*t), alternate world, general evolution sci-fi), so you might still find yourself confused over the setting in this book if left unexplained.

Uh, for the confused first timers...

If this is your first time reading ABO, I would like to apologise, except I won't because this is probably a good, relatively wholesome place to start.

That being said, this may or may not be a gateway for you to much worse things (I'm sorry T-T).

So to summarise the omegaverse, the basic premise is that there are six genders- Alpha (A), Beta (B), and Omega (O), then male and female for each. If I could do a PhD in omegaverse gender studies, I would.

The following information is not all too relevant for this story in particular (except for explaining why one of our main characters has two fathers) but the basic biology for this world is different to our own. Alphas (male and female) all have the ability to impregnate. Betas function as normal as we know it (so males impregnate, females do not). Likewise, all omegas (male and female) have the ability to bare children. So in such a world, women can impregnate and men can give birth. The reason for this setup varies depending on the story, but often it's because of evolution, so it usually takes place in a futuristic sci-fi story or an alternate reality. Alphas and omegas also tend to secrete pheromones from glands on their neck to attract their opposite (A and O attract) to increase the likelihood of getting a partner. Naturally this is disruptive for society, so pheromone blockers and suppressants help reduce this effect so that alphas and omegas can function normally in their everyday lives. Alphas pheromones also have a secondary function which allows them to fight other alphas and suppress them based on the potency and dominance of their pheromones alone.

Along with these new genders, come new gender stereotypes and social hierarchy, which vary greatly and depend on the settings and worldbuilding. In this story, omegas, betas and alphas have equal standings in society. That being said, this is due to the invention of suppressants, which happened rather recently. Because of this, some sexist people have ingrained stereotypes for alphas and omegas, viewing alphas as supreme leaders and omegas as weak and submissive. Of course, this is just another unfair stereotype, and most people know better.

As for pairings in this world... anything is possible, however, not all will result in natural childbirth. AO and straight BB is the most common in this world, but AB and OB are also found sometimes. AB and OB are more rare because AO has a much stronger attraction due to pheromones, but they do exist, and so does homosexual BB. AA and OO is extremely rare because their pheromones usually clash and they are genetically incompatible.

Fated mates are very rare but highly compatible. When you smell your fated mate, you know. It will be much more potent than any other pheromone and smell especially soothing and irresistible. It's basically an AO soulmate that can be found through smell.

It's a weird setup with a lot of rules I know, but basically it's six gender biology chaos with soulmates through smell, and no, I did not make this up myself, this is legit a whole genre. It's confusing and overwhelming, but I call this pit a home now.

This background is not that important for the story itself. You could probably read it without this summary, but this is just for clarification. Basically, having two mothers (or two fathers) is completely normal, omegas being weak is an unfair stereotype, and pheromones exist to attract AO partners (including fated mates) and for alphas to fight other alphas, that's all the information this story uses.

The main reason I decided to write this, was because straight relationships and female alphas are so rare in the omegaverse. It's a six gender system, yet why is there so little variety in pairings?? I want to eventually write a pairing of every kind. AA, BB, OO, OB, AB, MXF, BL, GL, you name it! Anything rare and unwritten will now get written, particularly female alphas, because they have my whole heart. <3
