{You're a god who's grown bored with power and is looking for a successor.}
Now one would think being the God of both Destruction and Chaos wouldn't grow old. They would be wrong. Sure for the first few eons or so it was exciting and fun but after that, I was just kinda neutral towards my job.
Nothing is amusing anymore. All the reactions from the mortals are bland. I mostly just lay in my empty pocket-relm and just think out of pure boredom. Every now and then I'll destroy something to do my job and keep the balance stable but I didn't take any enjoyment from it. After a few decades my opposite grew to feel the same about his job and made more visits into my pocket-realm just to talk.
That's where we are at the moment. Me sprawled on the ground with my opposite leaning against my side, back of his head resting on my lower ribs. We were sitting in silence until he spoke to break it. "Have you ever thought of retiring?" I blinked and lifted my head to star at him. "Can we even do that? Given the balance and all." He was quiet as he thought that over. "What about sucessors?"
That caught me off guard. "What?" He turned his head to look at me. "Sucessors. Like training someone younger to take your place so you can retire." I gripped one of his shoulders and lifted him up so I could sit up, once I was he simply leaned back against my shoulder. "We can do that?" He shrugged.
"I guess. The lesser gods have. A few times actually. Who's to say we can't." "Other than the fact we are the only two High Gods and were the ones to cause their creation in the first place?" He just shrugged. "We had to have come from somewhere, right?" I thought about it. The prospect did intrigue me until I had a thought and I frowned. "Would that mean we would have to go against each other again? I'm not sure I can fight you like I used to."
My opposite sat up to tease me, a bit of his old childishness from our younger years coming back. "Awww, you loooooovve me!" I roll my eyes and shove him away by his face. "Yeah, yeah. Shut up!" He laughed but then actually answered the question. "Well, it would only be for a few centuries. Towards the end we probably wouldn't even have to fight, just keep an eye on our sucessors when they do just in case." I humm and thought it over. "Why not. I'm bored anyways." My opposite cheered, childish spark flaring up again.
"Oh be quiet and get out already! I have work to do and so do you" He laughed but quickly left before I could throw something at him. So I started my search through the various mortals and lesser gods to see who peaked my interest. Not getting anywhere I decide to switch tactics and make a list of mortals and lesser gods with a few traits that would help them with my job and slowly went through it, crossing out the ones that wouldn't work. Slowly my list got smaller and smaller until I had a handful left. I then opened a window through time and space to study them for a bit before deciding if I should cross them out.
After many centuries, or maybe it was just a few days? It hard to tell when scanning through time without care like i was, I finally land on one, studying it for a bit I found it was nearly perfect for the job. Completely suprised, I quickly checked the various levels of magic, spells, and strings of fate to see if any other God had claimed them yet. I was suprised to not find any claim on them. Not wanting it to slip though my fingers, I extended my own strings of fate and tied it around the mortal's Core to stake my claim.
Now to wait for the perfect time to officially claim them as my successor. I let my window snap to the 'current' time to see where it was at the moment so I could plan ahead but didn't get the chance to check it's future since I was enthralled by the drama that greeted my eyes when the window resumed normal speed. Needing to see this for myself, I quickly left my realm and appeared nearby my Chosen, undetectable of course, to watch the drama play out.
Apparently my Chosen and his siblings were raised with the job of protecting the Sacred Garden. Each child having a plant and fruit that corresponded to each of the Gods (mid level and the most known to mortals). A village nearby had grown entitled by having such easy access to the fruits and protecting the garden had slowly gotten harder and harder to do. Currently a mob of villagers were rioting just outside the gates to the garden. My Chosen was one of the only two children left after the rioting villagers killed the older ones for trying to stop them, causing their corresponding plants to grow wild and corrupted. Making the garden very overgrown and dangerous.
My Chosen was extremely desperate since he was a dual guardian of the largest plant in the garden and his twin, the other guardian, was extremely hurt and dying in his arms. He knew the only way to save his twin was to have him eat one of the corresponding fruit but he couldn't touch it without corrupting it with his conflicting magic. I calmly glanced over as the rioters finally broke through the gate and started to try and make their way through the overgrown garden to find any of the God Fruit.
My Chosen panicked and grabbed one of his twins fruits and shoved it into his twins mouth before he could corrupt it too much. Thankfully it seemed to start working but the plant it came from started to wilt and die from his touch and it spread to the rest of the plant. In a desperate attempt to save as many fruits as possible he started eating his fruits, knocking as many uncorrupted fruits from his twins side off the tree as he could as he went.
I noticed his mortal body couldn't take the amount of power he was shoving into it as such a quick pace so I quickly took my chance and officially activated my claim on him, making a connection between our Cores and supporting his Core as it took in all the power. Of course, that didn't happen without consequence. His form had started to melt from the sheer power contained within it but with my support it stopped melting. It wasn't soon enough though since as the melted parts of his old form slid off him, it left just his skeleton.
That was much too brittle a form for my Chosen, so I picked through the Core Strings to help him out. To mirror the changes I made, his bones changed color. It darkened and gained glowing runes and markings to show his tie to a High God. Happy with the changes I closed the window to the Core Strings and looked up. I casually scoop up the child as he passed out from the pain of the changes. Cradling my Chosen I glance up just in time to see my opposite beam at me as he gently picked up my Chosen's twin and caringly made his own changes to it.
I rolled my eyes. Of course he would choose my Chosen's twin. Oh well. I decide I'm feeling nice today. Raising my freehand I snap and all of the rioters and their village are immediately destroyed. Life and Death won't be happy with me but I dont really care at the moment. My opposite, of course, had to tease me about it. "Awww. You actually care about something!" I roll my eyes. "Whatever." I then motion to the corrupted and overgrown garden. "Your turn." He beamed and waved his hand. The garden was cleaned of the spreading corruption and was cleaned up a tad. It was still overgrown and heavily corrupted but it wasnt a wall of plants and wouldn't spread outside the fence of the garden.
I nod at him respectfully as I gather my magic to go back to my realm. "See you at the upcoming battle." He beamed and waved at me. "See you then, Dearest!" He left to his own realm, leaving me to scoff at his nickname and left to my own.
I don't think I'll be bored for a while.
