Dragons adopt a village

{A dragon couple adopts a village}

"Uhhh....Sweet-scale, starlight, love of my life.....I don't think-" I was interrupted by my excitable mate nearly vibrating in his excitement. "But VoidWing you always said you wanted hatchlings running around, now we can have an entire clutch of them!"

I glance at the panicking villagers running around the small pen my mate made for them. "Well yeah, but taking humans from their village?" I question, looking back down at my small mate. He paused and looked up at me innocently. "What about it?" He tilted his head, large ears flopping cutely. I stare at him for a minute. If I tell him to just bring them back and that we can't adopt an entire pack of humans, he'll get so sad and I hate to see him sad.

I glance at the villagers, who have mostly stopped panicking to huddle together fearfully at the far side of the pen. I think quickly, trying to come up with an answer so SkyFlight doesn't think I backed down. "Look how scared they are, love. Don't you think it would be better to slowly introduce them into a dragon's life? Stealing them from their home, trapping them, and introducing them to your even larger mate all at once probably isn't the best first impression. They probably think you wanna eat them."

Sky gasped and balked at that but did seem to take it into consideration. "But....how will we make sure they're safe and none of them wander off if they aren't in the den with us?" He asks, looking back up to me with wide watery eyes. I take a minute but sigh. The humans won't like this but its the lesser of two evils. I lower my head to look him in the eyes. "How about this: you bring them back to their village and we'll claim the whole thing. I'll even let you build a big pen around it to keep predators out, how about that?"

He immediately perked up, scales practically glistening. "Really!? The whole village!? Buildings and farms and hatchligns and everything!?" I simply nod at him. He beams and lunges to wrap his wings around me, as best he could with his small size anyways.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're the best mate ever!" I chuckle and can't help but comment a bit of sass. "Don't let StarGaze hear that." Sky gasped and bounced back with the reminder about our third member. "Oh yeah! Star will be so excited! I can't wait to see his face!" He started chattering on and on as he rounded up the humans and flew them back to their village.

I just sigh. "I'm probably going to regret this.....especially when StarGaze gets back from his trip." I wince at the thought. Oh yeah. I'm definitely going to get an earful from him when he hears about this.
