What you saw in the video made your heart sink.

Rosé, your Rosé, was on the dancefloor with that model guy and twerking on him. He had one hand wrapped around her waist and the other raised in the air, a confident smirk etched across his perfectly chiseled face.

But what really cut deep was seeing that this wild party girl, who was dancing so provocatively with someone else, had a face that you'd loved for so long. Her expressions went from biting her lip 🫦, to the kissy face 😙, and then sticking out her tongue when she realized someone was recording 😝🤘.

If that scene was a punch to your stomach, seeing it happen with your couple's ring still on her finger was a shove to the ground. Last but not least, hearing everyone else at the party whistle and cheer them on was a spit in the face for good measure.

You threw your phone to the other side of the bed and pulled your pillow over your face. You just wished you could unsee everything, but it was already seared through your retinas into your permanent memory.

Suddenly you found your stomach turning as you were overcome with severe anxiety. You rushed to the toilet and threw up, your breath heaving as tears streaked down your face. Once you'd thrown up everything you could and your breath returned to normal, you flushed the toilet and brushed your teeth to get rid of the bitter taste.

After you finished brushing your teeth you stared long and hard at the pathetic looking person in the mirror, trying to figure out who you'd become after years of enduring a slowly fracturing relationship.

Taking a few deep breaths, you suddenly noticed just how silent and still everything was around you. It was a serene feeling, like you'd found the eye of the storm that had been tormenting you for so long. Your reflection didn't look so bad after all. You saw a new person, one who had made up their mind and was going to stand up for themselves.

You strided back into your bedroom and took your phone, determined this time. You ignored Twitter which had ROSIE THROW IT BACK trending, and typed in her number. You looked at it for a moment and paused, your finger hovering over the call button.

You suddenly remembered a serious conversation you'd had with Alice many years ago. It had happened alone with her in their family living room shortly after you'd made your relationship official with her sister. You could still hear her words as if it were yesterday:

"She loves you to death, you know. Maybe too much."

"And I love her just the same."

"Just listen to me Y/N. This is serious. She's always been a bit of a hopeless romantic but with you she's really let her guard down. You seem like a great person and I like you, but I'm not letting you hurt a soul as pure as my baby sister. Don't you dare play with her heart."

"That's the last thing I'd ever want to do. Trust me, I really do love her."

"Good. And I want you to promise me one thing..."

"What's that?"

"If there comes a day you have to break up with her - talk to me first. Not to get mad at you necessarily. But if it's really not working out, I just need to be there to help you let her down easy. Because it would crush her. But, of course I hope it never comes to that."

"I hope so too. I want us to have a future together."

"Y/N - promise me."

"Right. Ok, I promise Alice."

When you came back to the present moment you dialed Alice's number instead of Rosé. Despite it being nearly 3:00 in the morning she picked up right away.

"Y/N? Hey what is it, is everything ok?"

You chewed your lip, unaware you'd drawn blood. "No Alice, it's not ok" your eyes fell to the floor. "Remember that promise I made you a long time ago?"

She still sounded half asleep. "You made me a promise?"

"Back when I'd just started dating Rosie?"

"Oh... oh no..." her voice trailed off.

"Yeah. I... I have to break up with her," you choked.

You braced yourself her response, worried she'd resent you since she'd always been overprotective of her sister. But to your surprise, her tone was soft.

"B-break up? But I thought, we spoke earlier and you said-"

"I know, but something happened tonight. Something bad." The tension on the phone spiked.

"What happened??"

"You know that party she went to last night? She was twerking on some guy and he had his hands all over her."

She gasped, and then silence for a minute. "Oh my God Y/N... I'm so sorry."

"It's not your fault, this is all on her. I've let her step all over me for so long but this time she's crossed the line. I just can't take this anymore."

You could hear Alice's voice shaking, "Oh no... but you and her have been together for so long... I watched you grow up together. Oh, to see you two break up is going to break my heart too." She sniffed. "But if it's what best for you..."

"It is."

You heard Alice breathing heavily as she gathered herself.

"Ok... I understand. Well thank you for telling me. And thank you for keeping your promise."

"Yeah. Sorry it had to come to this."

"You don't have to be sorry."

"Thanks for understanding. Goodb-."

"-And don't forget you're always welcome in our family ok?"

"Thank you, that means a lot. goodbye Alice, take care."

"Goodbye Y/N."

There was one difficult phone call out of the way. But now it was time for the really difficult one, which loomed like an intimidating mountain in front of you. But you had to do it.

You called Rosé's number. It rang for a minute to no reply, not that you'd been expecting one anyway.

Her voicemail recording was her sweet Aussie accented voice saying "Hello there! You've reached Rosie Park. Please leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Bye bye!"

Hearing her lovely voice sent a painful wave of love washing over you, and for a brief moment you had second thoughts. Then you caught yourself, shook your head and said what you had to say.

"Hi Chaeyoung it's me. I'll spare you the BS and cut to the chase - it's time we broke up. I saw the video of you last night and it just confirmed what I've been thinking for a while. This isn't working anymore between us. It hasn't for a long time. I'll always be grateful for the memories we've shared over the years together. But it's clear you're living your own life now - away from me - and you seem to be loving it. So I'm not going to waste my time anymore hoping it'll go back to the way it was... back when it was just the two of us."

You nearly choked up but held it together and delivered the rest of your message.

"So I guess this is it. I wish you nothing but happiness... and I will always love you Chaeyoung. But this is goodbye."

You hung up the phone and lay back in bed, breathing a sigh of relief. The pain was still lingering in the shadows, and you knew it would take a long time before it would leave you, but you knew you'd done the right thing. For the first time in 7 years, you were single.

(Continue? Not entirely sure where I wanna go with this tbh)
