"Hey, Mimi?"
"Yes Milo," The older woman sat at her dresser twisting her hair while looking into the mirror. The six-year-old Milo hesitated to answer even though he had called out to her. He places one hand on his other wrist rubbing it slightly."Did mama leave me because she didn't like me?" Milo looked down at his feet. Mimi places the comb down. She turns her chair around to face the younger. "Milo you know that's not true. Fua loved and loves you with all her heart, she just had a special mission to do," Mimi tells him, but he doesn't look up as he shakes his head no.
"If she loves me then why did she leave me? You're not supposed to leave the people you love?" The six-year-old voice shakes as he tried his hardest not to cry.
Big boys didn't cry. He repeated this to himself feeling soft arms wrap themselves around him. Pulling him in close he inhaled the scent of vanilla. "Milo we all have missions on this world, once we completed them, we get called home to a better world," Mimi rubs his back before releasing him to grasp his small face in her palms.
Milo sniffs, "Are you saying mama was a spy?" A small smile tugs Mimi's lips. "Yes she was, and one of the best ones too. She was able to do a lot of great things, and most importantly she gave me something to cherish after, and that is you."
Milo giggles. However, it fades as he asks her, "Are you going to leave too?" Mimi rubs his head, "One of these days, I would have completed my mission. I'm an old spy you know, but I have a mission that keeps me going."
Milo's eyes shimmer, "What? I wanna help! I'll help you beat up the bad guys?"
Mimi laughs picking him up, "Okay well you can help by, going to school, keeping up with your grades, doing your chores, and making sure you're healthy."
Milo frowns, "On second thought never mind, I don't wanna be a helper anymore."
"Milo!" A person hollering his name causes Milo to jump up. "Huh?!" Startled he looks into the eyes of nurse Kitty. "Jesus Christ child I thought you were dead?" Milo stretches, it was uncomfortable sleeping in hospital chairs. He ignored her by mistake looking at the comatose state of his grandmother.
As he looks at her he thinks back to the dream he had. So morbid to dream a dream like that. "Here drink this," Nurse kitty hands him a glass of water.
His throat was a little patch so he happily took it giving her a big thank you. "I was surprised that you were able to pay for next month's coverage, plus supply for some more of the medicine she took at the hospital. You work hard," Nurse kitty tells Milo. However, the tone of her voice made it seem as though she was trying to interrogate him.
Milo looks away, " I just picked up a few extra shifts that all, plus a side job." Nurse Kitty eyes him suspiciously, "A side job?"
Milo didn't know how to lie, but he was good at keeping secrets. Nurse Kitty tilts her head, "You selling drugs?"
She asks him leaving them both confused, Milo is confused as to why she would ask that, and Kitty is also confused as to why she said it. The boy ain't look like the type to sell drugs, and he definitely wouldn't sell his body.
Would he? She looked Milo up and down he had an undeniable innocence that just screamed like a sanitized virgin.
"Umm, No I'm not selling drugs Miss Kitty" Milo awkwardly laughs looking over at his grandmother. He wondered if she could still hear the things around her. If that was the case he'd have some explaining to do, not that she wasn't going to ask questions when she later woke up, but he'll figure that out later.
