"Everyone to your groups please," Michelle announces to the crowd. Everyone begins gathering into assigned groups, myself with Hadley, Matthew, Caleb, Owen, and Kaylin as the Jumper."alright everyone, on three, we will all move out, jumpers, remember your locations clearly. Ready?" Michelle asks, getting clarification from all Jumpers that we are ready to go. My heart is pounding. "Three. Two. One!"
In a flash, the room blurs as we are flying through space and time heading toward our designated location. Moments later, we land in the middle of an empty street. Kaylin looks to all of us checking our reactions to the teleportation as I have heard some people become sick as a result, understandably so. Around us, many other groups of the Syndicate land on the same street, several hundred feet apart to prevent collisions.
"Stay alert, seems they intentionally cleared the streets like we suspected." Michelle says, Tristan beside her, head on a swivel. We continue to make our way in the direction of the palace on edge and hands out ready to stand our ground. The silence surrounding us becoming unnerving and eerie. After walking for about five minutes with no movement, we see the palace. Closing the gap closer to the palace, we see them. The Legion. All in lines, Queen Juliet at the front standing tall and proud, her hair glistening in the blazing sunlight.
"Well if it isn't 'The Outlaw Club'. How adorable." Queen Juliet says mockingly.
"Mom? Wh-what are you doing here? Where is Dad?" Caleb asks, clearly on edge.
"On. Sorry to tell you this son, he's dead. I killed him" she adds with emphasis on what she has done, a sinister smile covering her lips. "He wasn't exactly okay with the ice of fighting you when the her and what a traitor you are, so I killed him. He was week, just like you have always been" she continues cruelly. I can these words are getting to Caleb, his breathing becoming heavy and shaky.
"The King is down," I can hear Tristan say behind me to Michelle. "this was not the plan, we need to draw back and regroup."
"Fall back !"Michelle calls loudly so the whole Syndicate can hear. "Move out, back to the base. Now!" in a frenzy, leave one starts to group back together, teleporting back to the base with haste.
"Don't let them leave," I hear the Queen say, leaning over to who appears to be her general.
"Run!" I yell fueled by instinct and everyone scatters, a few teleporting occasionally. The Legion military starts running after us and I find myself stopping in my path as others run around me, flying magic every which way.
"Raven, we have to go!" I hear Hadley yell back at me from in front of me. I slowly close my eyes instead. You can do this, Raven. You were born for this. You can do this. Focus, channel your emotions. I feel the energy begin to build in my fingers, opening my eyes to look down and see purple energetic magic circling my hands up my arms. "Raven?" Hadley asks me, partly in concern, partly excited.
I turn away from her, opening my eyes again, facing back to oncoming Legion soldiers, noticing a few familiar faces within the crowd. The purple energy around my hands grows stronger and more intense as I keep a strong focus on what I want. I take a deep breath, honing my magic towards the people in front of me, envisioning in my mind a large force field of pulsing purple energy, sending the Legion backward. A moment later, the field is in front of me, pulsing with energy, disabling many of the soldiers in front of me as it pushes through them, knocking many to the ground or causing them to fight backward. Now that we have a chance, I run back towards my group into an alley to try some cover as I only bought us so much time.
We begin slowing down after walking down the long alley, I hear singular footsteps gaining behind us. I motion for us to fuck quickly into an alcove along the alley, waiting for the mystery person to approach, on guard, hand ready with resounding magic, Caleb's hands matching mine. The pounding footsteps get gradually closer then slowing just a few feet away from where we are.
