The weeks of lessons and endless paperwork began. We start with learning the basics of each elements. The power they hold, the different ways they can be changed or transformed, what it made of, how it can be controlled. Anything and everything possible to learn about the elements. There was a lot more to each element than I thought.

Along with the numerous weeks of note taking, we had several different essays and projects due, just like regular high school classes and lessons. I was not expecting for these first few months to be so much like high school like I went to for two year before the ceremony but to my surprise, it is exactly like high school. Just with totally different topics from Algebra 2, Chemistry, or English.

Hadley and I typically pair up together for the majority of the projects and assignments. That is until we have to do a project with a group of three.

"You are all getting close to being time for your connections. But, before you can get there, there is one last major project you all must complete." I whip my head towards Hadley's direction as she does the same and we quietly giggle. Our friendship has grown over the last months from acquaintances, to friends, to best friends, and now we are almost inseparable. Hadley is possibly the closest friend I have ever had in my entire life besides Owen.... "In groups of three."

Mrs. Benoit adds the last part and Hadley and I stare at each other. We usually do a group project together but it's going to be different trying to find someone else to work with. Everyone separates into their groups as Hadley, and I look around for another person to add to our group. As we look into the large crowd of trainees, we hear a voice behind us, surprising us and making us jump.

"Hey." He says, in a soft tone. "Oh sorry, didn't mean to scare you. Could I be in your group for the project?" he has a sweet smile on his face, eyes hopeful. How could anyone say no to a face like that?

"Of course!" I reply kindly.

"Thank you so much! I'm Matthew by the way." He said with a bigger smile, sticking his hand out for us to shakes.

"I just don't know what you see in him Hadley! He's so cocky and arrogant and you could do so much better." I say, walking in between Hadley and Matthew down the large hallway. Hadley cuts a fake glare at me, trying her best to hide a smile. After working on the project with Matthew, the three of us became inseparable. We are the three musketeers, doing everything together. No one could stop us.

"You think I don't know that Raven!" she laughs with me. "But-"

"He's hot." Matthew and I say in unison busting into laughter afterwards, mocking Hadley's usual tone when she's talking about Caleb. It was weird at first to not think of his as the Prince but now he's just... Caleb. He's just like everyone else, or at least he supposed to be. We'll see how long that lasts.

"But, I mean, she's not wrong. He is hot." Matthew added laughing as well.

"Wow, thanks for the help, Matthew." I say as we all laugh, walking into the training room.

The room is now dimly lit and has been rearranged and transformed into a circular arena of chairs and benches around the same four hovering trays with the elements inside. A sense of déjà vu fills the room as we found somewhere to sit, the rest of the trainees following not long after.

"Your attention please!" Mr. Andrews said after all the trainees have been seated and we were talking amongst ourselves, quieting at Mr. Andrews words sounding through the room. "Thank you. After the last two months of your studies, you have learned everything you can about your new powers. Now, keeping in mind all you have learned, this moment may be one of the most important in your life as an Elemental. The connection of Elemental and element." Mr. Andrews finishes, stepping back as four of our assistant trainers stepped forward by each of the four bowls.
