Wei Wuxian looks around, grabbing his food tray before heading towards his lunch table, where his friends were all sat, talking about the new game seasons upcoming.
He took a seat beside Jiang Cheng, just as usual, laughing at any occasional comments thrown at him.
But his head hadn't been in the right spot, after first hour he hadn't been able to focus all day, the lectures going in one ear and out the other.
He hadn't even bothered pissing off his teachers like normal today, even Jiang Cheng himself had been unusually quiet, not telling at Wei Wuxian about class, or how they had to get on time, nothing.
Today was unusually fast, though in his head it seemed forever, — had he for once wanted to go back to old man QiRen's class?
He shook his head, discarding the thought of ever wanting to be in the old hags class.
He was a drag, a terrible pain in the ass.
"Wei Wuxian! They are talking to you!" Jiang Cheng says, shaking Wei Wuxian violently until he sees he's come back to reality.
Wei Wuxian chuckled awkwardly, scratching his head, "Sorry, Sorry, I was thinking about something."
Now Huisang, his friend, chuckles as he takes his out his uchiwa, fanning himself as usual, meaning he had gained interest in a sudden topic.
"Wei Wuxian? Thinking about something? Now that's something you don't see everyday. What is on you're mind Wei Wuxian?" He says, fanning himself delicately.
Wei Wuxian rolls his eyes at him, "I actually think a lot more then you think, this is normal." He says.
Jiang Cheng scoffs, "Sure it is, but you're being abnormally quiet for having such a loud mouth." He says.
Now Huisang nods in agreement.
Wei Wuxian looks at Nie Huisang with a pained expression, "How dare you! I thought we were supposed to be friends , how could you turn on me in such a way." He says, whining.
Jiang Cheng scoffs, "He's just being right for once."
Now Huisang gasps, fanning himself more intensely, "Now that is not true! I'm always right!" He says.
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng look at him.
Nie Huisang feels small under their intense stares, covering his face with the uchiwa.
"W—Well not always but still! — Wei-Xiong! I always help you with you're work!! Why are you like this with me??" He says.
Wei Wuxian smiles, "Isn't that what a traitor deserves? You deserve nothing less, anything for my friend." He says, pulling Huisang close, placing his arm around his shoulders.
Now Huisang sighs, wanting to argue back but knowing he stood no chance, he stayed silent.——-
Xichen walked around the corner, making sure his brother is following behind him.
He smiles at him, only getting a nod in response.
Lan Wangji knew his brother was worried for him, he had always been, ever since they were younger.
Even more so when their parents died.
Wangji had always tried keeping his head up, showing that he had himself together.
Though it was the opposite.
He felt everything had gone downhill, his whole life changed, he never saw his father, not even once anymore.
His uncle took care of them, he was the only father figure he knew, yet it came with being perfect, it came with so many restrictions he always questioned whether it was all worth it, all the effort, all the work.
He had no friends, he was alone.
Though it never bothered him, he sometimes just wanted someone aside from his brother.
His brother was positive, he made friends left and right, his smile was his charm point and that he could never deny.
But sometimes, he wished he would be able to be as expressive.
But he couldn't.
No matter how hard he tried, his efforts would all go to waste.
Whether it was his uncle shutting him out from the outside world or himself, there was always something stopping him.
So he stopped tryihe no longer had the wish to.
He shook his head, letting the feelings flow away just as they had flooded in.
He looked up at his brother, who walked a step away from him with a smile, stepping into the cafeteria and scanning the room, seeing which group would certainly fit him, and possibly Wangji the most.
Wangji was greatful for this, his efforts in wanting to see him thrive, to see him with friends.
Though it never worked, he still appreciated it.
Xichen, "Wangji, do you want to sit with those people over there?" He said, pointing to a certain table not far away from where they stood.
He could practically see the shines in his brothers eyes as he pointed over there, the endless excitement as clear as day.
He sighed internally, he didn't want to socialize with others, but he also didn't want to leave his brother hanging.
So he agreed, nodding to his older brother.
Xichen smiled excitedly, "Thank you Wangji."
Wangji nodded, sending his brother a small smile in return.
Xichen nodded back, sending him a smile as well before they walked over to the table, standing right in front of the group.
Lan Xichen stood in front while Wangji stood behind him, quietly observing the group before them.
"Hello! I'm Lan Xichen and this is my brother, Lan Wangji, we were wondering if we could sit with you guys?" He said, smiling.
Jiang Cheng lowered his head, looking at the floor.
Wei Wuxian smiled, moving over to give a spot over to one of the boys.
"Of course! The more the merrier as I like to say." He says, before getting a hit on his shoulder.
"Owww!" He says, Xichen laughs.
"Shut it! You're embarrassing me with you're ridiculous words!" Jiang Cheng responds.
Xichen laughs a little louder, "Ah! No worries about it. Jiang Cheng? Was it?" He says.
Jiang Cheng feels blush creep up his cheeks as he nods, rubbing his hands together roughly.
Xichen flashes him a smile before turning to his brother, — everyone did.
"Wangji, why don't you take a seat beside Wei Wuxian? I'll be right here." He says, whispering the last part.
Wangji nods, seeing as his brother had already grown a bond to the boy in purple, Jiang Cheng.
He takes a seat beside Wei Wuxian, keeping his safe distance by only a little.
Wei Wuxian smiles, watching as Lan Wangji is cautious and careful, his silence being the mystery Wei Wuxian wanted to solve.
And he would solve it.
He turned, seeing as the group had already been in a conversation, he decided it would be best if he spoke to Lan Wangji instead.
So he turned back to Lan Wangji, seeing that the boy had already begun eating already.
He took his chance, "Lan Wangji? Was it?" He said.
Lan Wangji didn't react, only nodding silently as he continued to eat his food delicately.
Wei Wuxian got hypnotized, watching as the boy carefully put the food in his mouth, slowly chewing on it then again, carefully putting a delicate amount of food onto his fork yet again.
The whole process had been distracting, making all the questions he had leave his mind just in the same second he had thought of them.
But he soon, snapped out of it, shaking his head.
"Are you in any of the sports teams" he says.
Lan Wangji, yet again, had no firm reaction, yet nods.
Wei Wuxian nods, observing the boy once more before continuing, "What team are you on?" He says.
Lan Wangji finally turns to him, only to say the following words, "No speech while eating." He says, then turns back to his food, acting as if nothing had happened.
Wei Wuxian was left in shock, seeing as the boy had many manners.
The boy hadn't even tried to up hold the conversation, only pushing Wei Wuxian away, making him feel more desperate to know more about Lan Wangji.
He smiled to himself, "Oh? Did Old man QiRen teach you that?" He says.
Lan Wangji said nothing, but nodded.
Wei Wuxian smiled wider then before, "So that old man really is the same with everyone. I feel bad for you, I can imagine how hard it is to be that old man's nephew." He says.
Lan Wangji turned to him, his face yet again, expressionless.
Wei Wuxian chuckled, "What? You didn't like that?" He said.
Lan Wangji sits there for a while, silently contemplating whether or not to agree or disagree.
Though his uncle had always been a good one, his only father figure at that.
So, he nodded.
Wei Wuxian giggled, "Sorry, sorry, I won't offend the old man anymore... well at least not as much.." He said.
Lan Wangji sighs, turning away back to his food.
"Hey! Hey! I'm sorry! I won't insult the old man anymore!" He said, whining.
Lan Wangji suppressed a smile.
He turned to Wei Wuxian, seeing as the younger practically begged him to look at him again.
Wei Wuxian smiled once more, seeing as the older had given him an opportunity to speak to him again. — though he would have either way, whether he wanted to talk or not.
Wei Wuxian, "Wangji, are you going to any of the upcoming games?" He says.
Wangji shakes his head.
Wei Wuxian frowns, "Why not? The games are so interesting to watch! Specially as there are so many competitive players, it's funny to watch them argue!" He says, feeling the delightment of such sports.
Lan Wangji, "I have to study." He says.
Wei Wuxian sighs, "Boringgg! Wangji, you should have fun once in a while! We won't be this young forever! At least you won't be." He says.
Lan Wangji shakes his head, "Uncle said I must." He says.
Wei Wuxian rolls his eyes as he thought about the Old man QiRen.
He really was like this to his own family? How terrible! How could one ever deal with such a man? He wondered how Xichen and Wangji did it.
"The Old man can't always control what you do! You're old enough to make decisions for yourself too you know! You should comeee! It'll be so much fun if you're there!" He says.
Lan Wangji feels his heart stop, someone had wanted his presence?
His heart did back flips, his mind screamed, he felt his whole being crumble under those few words.
But he kept calm, nodding.
Wei Wuxian felt his heart race, "Great! Let's meet up at the benches, I'll save you a seat!" He smiled.
Lan Wangji, "Mn."
Wei Wuxian smiled, a foreign feeling of excitement growing in his chest.
Lan Xichen stood up, "Well, it's time to go now, we'll meet up at the game!! Next week is it?"
Jiang Cheng nodded, "Yea! Wei Wuxian and I will be waiting at the benches, try to come early!" He says.
Lan Xichen nodded, "Of course! I'll see you guys then!" He says.
Lan Wangji stood up, standing behind him silently as his heart pounded in his chest.
"Let's go now Wangji, we'll be late." He says, looking at his younger brother.
Lan Wangji nods, following his brother towards the exit before being stopped by a certain someone who ran up to him with something in his hands.
"Lan Wangji! Here, it's my number." Wei Wuxian smiled.
Lan Wangji nodded.
Wei Wuxian, "make sure to call me on the day of the game, just to make sure I don't forget anything okay?" He says.
Lan Wangji, "Mn."
Wei Wuxian smiles at him before running back to his friends.
Lan Xichen smiles at seeing his younger brother had already made a new friend.
Wangji, says nothing about it, moving forward towards their destination.
Xichen chuckles silently before following soon after him.
