After getting home from the beach my mother, Edna, and father, Pascal told me that they would both be working late, so I had to make sure all the doors and windows remained locked. The murders, missing person reports, and grave robbing were all over the news. My mother was frantically running around the house checking every little thing, even the small window in the bathroom was almost nailed shut.

"For god's sake sweetheart, it's fine. Now come on or we'll be late." Father stood by the front door looking more frustrated by the minute.

"Fine? A Bunch of people end up missing or murdered and you think leaving her on her own is fine?" She hollered from the kitchen.

"You know what I mean. Besides, it'll only be for a few hours."

"Will you just shut up already? I am not leaving until everything is locked and bolted." She looked around the house with a face like an angry bulldog. I hated when she got like that. I know she was only trying to protect me, I just wished she'd stop making me feel like an invalid.

"Mum seriously, go to work. I'll be fine." I reassured her. "If someone was going to break into the house I can call for help with my mobile. Hell, the neighbours would hear me without the phone."

"And how would you know, Angela? You're always on that computer or listening to those ridiculous headphones. If someone broke into this house all they'd have to do is sneak up behind you with a knife and you'd be done for."

"Thank mum. You really know how to fill me with confidence." I really wished she'd have a little confidence in me.

"Now, We're going to lock the front door on the way out. When we return I expect everything switched off and make sure you double-check that all the doors and windows are shut. Do you understand?" She sounded like she was in the army. Like any minute now enemy soldiers would come bursting in.

"Yes, mother." I just wished she'd gone already.

"Edna, get a move on," Dad called as he threw open the front door. Mum hugged me for a moment and then just walked past him and out the front door. Dad just rolled his eyes as he smiled at me and walked out. After the door closed I could hear the key twirl in the lock and their footsteps down the drive.

I put my bag under the coffee table and looked out the living room window. Once I saw them drive away I walked through the dining area into the kitchen to get food, checking all the windows and doors as I did so. The BBQ ribs were looking pretty good so I popped them in the oven and went to watch TV in the living room. It was another news report. A man of 19 by the name of Sam Uley and a woman of 21 named Emily Young was reported missing after they failed to turn up at Sam's engagement party. He was set to marry 18-year-old Leah Clearwater. Police are looking for any leads and request that people keep an eye open.

Oh god. That's the same guy we were told about at the beach. So that's two more people missing who might be dead. It might be those same nutters who Killed Lacey. I thought to myself. Her not being here felt weird and, just wrong. She was our friend. What could she possibly have done to deserve what they did to her? I got up from the sofa to check on the ribs when I looked out the window and saw the last rays of light from the sunset disappear into the dark.

Once I finished my meal and turned off the TV, I decided to head upstairs and look through my camera for some decent pics for my art class. The project was on pollution so I had to find some good images of nature to start with. It really sucked that I and Jesse couldn't go to the national park I could have gotten some great pics there. As I sat down at my desk and logged in, everything was silent. I started to feel really cold and had that creepy feeling that being alone in the house just didn't feel safe. I looked around my room for a moment and stared at the clock. Just a couple more hours and my parents would be home. When my desktop opened I quickly put on my headphones and turned on some music to combat my nerves. When I looked through the photo files from my camera I found images from the day of Tyler's car crash.
