Ikari at the End

Shinji Ikari awoke to two senses. The sound waves crashing along a shallow beach, and the feeling of rough sand on his back. Though he could tell it was a beach, Shinji had no idea where or when he was.

He peeled his eyes open to see a sky of scarlet above, feeling familiarity to the once unfamiliar ceiling he had seen many times before. Sitting up, his eyes grew wide. What lay before him was an ocean matching the sky and the severed head of what appeared to be an old acquaintance of his.

He sat still, frozen in shock as the sound of waves crashing was droned out by the ringing in his ears, and after what felt like an eternity, he screamed.

He did not scream out of fear, or physical pain, he screamed for there was no one else to hear. There was no one to hear, no one to see, no one to feel, and worst of all, no one to be proud.

Shinji Ikari had lost his place. He had no one to hide behind and no one to follow. He had no one to distract him from the loneliness and depression he had felt most of his life. He could never apologize to those he thought could love him.

He came back, so why couldn't they? He knew why. It wasn't cause they couldn't, it was because of him. Why would they chose a world with him in it, especially after he rejected them all. He though that if maybe he wasn't here, they would come back. Everyone would be back and he would be out of their way.....

But alas, Shinji Ikari was still a coward.....

Hey everyone! This is a little idea I came up with a couple weeks ago and thought I had to write it down. It's really short but I think it would be a good prologue for a longer story but idk how it would go. I am actually consider continuing it but if I do I'll probably write it on Fanfiction.net and if I do I'll leave the link here later on.
