DECLAN: BEFORE ARCADIA DAY

Val is standing in front of a whiteboard (where did we even get that?), looking as serious as they can. They've written in big scrawling letters "Arcadia Day". They also have a map of something sprawled out on our tiny table.

"PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!" Val shouts over the loud conversation in the room. There are nine of us in total, and the oldest is only 19. It's stupid that the best resistance against New Canaan is a group of teenagers, but here we are. As a result of our ages, these planning meetings are always a pain in the ass, particularly Val's ass. Most of us hush, but Killian keeps yapping. He's not the best at paying attention. Fortunately, he's hanging on my arm, so I elbow him in the stomach.

"Ow, Declan!" He complains, but shuts up.

"Thanks," Val sighs. "We have less than a week till Arcadia Day. A ton of New Canaan important people are going to be in one place. It's their day to pat themselves on the back and jerk each other off. FUCKING BISHOP is going to be there to 'bless' the crowd. We know when and where thanks to our person on the inside." They take a moment to glare at Malik, who had been firmly against planting Arturo in New Canaan almost three years ago. But it had worked. It had taken a long time, but it worked. Val had gloating rights, and wouldn't let Malik forget it.

"And it's happening at our very own district's church. This is our chance, people!" I can see the mischief glint in their eyes. It makes my heart leap into my throat; shit's about to go down.

"Not only are we gonna kill a bunch of these New Cannan bastards, but we're also going to take the church for our own. With a fuck ton of civilian witnesses, showing them that their gods are destructible."

Val's statement makes waves through the crew. Everyone but Talyn (their girlfriend, who had doubtless heard the plan already) had something to say.
"Yeah, yeah, I know it's ambitious," Val raises their voice again to speak over the noise, "but it's not like we haven't been ambitious this whole time. I've broken it down into very simple steps."

"Step one:" They began writing on the whiteboard, "Blow a hole in the wall." Everyone looks at Talyn, who's grinning like a Cheshire cat.
