Episode 28: Couple up

Louis is looking at how everybody is coupling up. It's still him, Harry, Luke, Josh and Cara that are left. Louis doesn't expect to be the one who gets a text. The producers must be sure that he is the one going home.

And it's indeed not him that gets a message, it's Harry.

Louis doesn't want to witness how he is picking Josh. He has lived through that once, second time won't hurt any less.

"The person I want to couple up with is someone that means the world to me. I know we're not on speaking terms, but I can't let them go when we are like this. I want to make things alright between us because... I really miss them having around. I hope that this week will give us a chance to figure things out. They have been my rock, my everything throughout the whole show and this week made me realise that I really don't give a fuck about being here if it's not with them. The person I would like to couple up with is Louis..."

Louis' eyes are wide when he stares at the curly boy in front of him. Everybody starts to whisper and Louis walks up to him slowly. He really didn't see that coming. Barely anyone is paying attention to Luke who does get coupled up with Cara now. Honestly Louis is happy for that. At least he doesn't stand his friend's love life in the way and gets an actual shot with her.

When Laura announces that Josh has to go home, Harry immediately walks up to him and apologizes.

"I should have known that this was going to happen." He laughs humourlessly. "Even though I was the one with you, it would have never been me in the end anyway."

Harry doesn't respond to him, just apologizes again and Louis doesn't know what to do. He is fighting with Harry and he is not just going to forgive and forget everything only because they are coupled up now.

"I didn't see that one coming!" Eleanor walks straight up to Louis and both Luke and Danielle follow her lead.

"How are you feeling? Lou, if this makes you uncomfortable then I'm not the one making you stay." Danielle says immediately. "I don't want you to get hurt even more."

"It's alright. It's the best in the end, right? Harry has decided his own faith, now some of us don't have to give up on something they actually don't want to and I still get to be here to help you." He kisses Danielle's forehead.

"I love you, Lou."

"I think we should celebrate because tonight we all have gotten a chance to get love; also you Louis." Luke grabs four classes from the bar and gives them to his friends.

"To love."

The evening goes fine. Everybody is laughing, having fun and Louis hasn't shared a word with Harry yet. That's good. He doesn't know how to approach their situation.

He has to though when it's night and time to go to sleep. Louis walks up to the bed, Harry already lying down in it.

"Hey, Lou..." his voice is soft and broken, his eyes are swollen. It's clear that Harry has been crying.

"Why have you done this to yourself, H?" Louis shakes his head and sits down on the bed next to Harry. "You clearly are upset because Josh is gone."

"He wasn't my soulmate." Harry says. "That was the deal, remember? To stick together until I have found my soulmate?"

"The deal is long over, don't you think?" Louis shakes his head.

"I know that you hate me, and I'm sorry for the things I have said and done. I never meant to hurt you intentionally. I just- I couldn't let you go home like this, Louis. The chance that I would have let go of my soulmate to fix us is pretty big. I'm going to repeat myself. I see you forever in my life."

Louis sighs and wipes a single tear from Harry's cheek.

"What do I have to do with you, H?"

"Forgive me. I don't know what I have done to mess up so badly but whatever it is, please forgive me. I miss you so much, Louis." Harry starts to cry harder again, almost like a child, and Louis can't help himself. He pulls Harry on his lap and the boy immediately hides his face in the crook of Louis' neck.

"Please stop hating me." He sobs. "I'm so fucking sorry. I'd do anything if you just stop hating me."

"I could never hate you." Louis says sincerely. "I care too much about you, you should know that by now."

Harry removes his head from Louis' neck so he can look at him.

"Are we okay?"

"Let's talk this out tomorrow, yeah? It's late now, today has been hard and you really need to sleep." Louis' lips linger on Harry's forehead.

Harry nods, puts himself under the blankets and immediately rolls completely into Louis' body. Louis puts his arms around the younger boy and kisses his curls before closing his eyes.

Harry might not be in love with him, but he clearly cares about Louis. As much as it will hurt, Louis has to put his feelings aside and be a friend to Harry. They have to talk it out so they can go back to friends, without benefits this time. Otherwise Louis will never get over him and be a good friend to the younger boy.

Harry might not offer what Louis desperately wants, but that doesn't mean Louis can't give Harry what he needs.
