The news of a commissar taking on multiple regiments to promote a new doctrine of combat efficiency spread fairly quickly amongst the lower ranks of the Imperium Guards on Cadia. The sheer size of the soldiers under Tanya's jurisdiction and her own biological uniqueness made her an interesting subject of discussion. Of course, the non-heretical sorts.
The captains and colonels of various regiments intermingled in the fortress eatery as both a celebration for their new authority figure and to improve cohesion between themselves. A few lieutenants were also present in the area, sticking to their respective regiments and conversing with their superiors.
Captain Ava Melli took the initiative in meeting new colleagues, towing the depressed Lucas Ollems behind her. They had been childhood friends for as long as she could remember. And just leaving him alone in his state of depression didn't sit well in her stomach. In her opinion, he needed more friends. It's a surprise, even to herself, how he couldn't make a single companion in all these years as a guardsman.
Seeing a nice crowd to settle into, she pushed Lucas into a seat before taking another by his side.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." She introduced herself to the group.
"The pleasure is all ours. Jack Accel, colonel of the artillery regiment." The supposed leader of the group warmly welcomed and extended his arm for a handshake. The man was in his prime age of 30 and had blonde hair with the purples eyes all natives of Cadia have.
"Ava Melli, captain of a Cadian shock troops company." She shook the colonel's hand. "It's great to meet you, sir."
"No need for the formalities here, we're all soldiers of Cadia here. Call me Jack." He heartly exclaimed and stepped aside for the rest of the group to introduce themselves.
"Lieutenant Sheila Deli of the armored regiment." A tomboy wearing a sleeveless shirt waved. Black grease littered her clothing, but no one minded the messy attire.
"Captain Gord Slit of the heavy infantry." A bearded man blew out a stream of cigar smoke as he spoke. "Nice meeting you, las."
"Colonel Yekta Maul mechanized infantry regiment." A sleek woman introduced and was the last member of the diverse group. Her goth appearance was a stark contrast to her enthusiastic personality.
After their short pleasantries, it didn't take long for the group to dig into the topic of their commissar, Tanya Degurechaff. Though they were members of vastly different regiments, they hit everything off quite well.
"Are you sure she is not a squat?" Sheila asked and took a swig of her beer.
"Too thin and fragile. I say, she'd be a felinid! Fucking Xenos." Gord angrily declared.
"You always say that to everyone you meet. You sure you don't have a closet fetish for cat girls?" Jack joked. "Besides, she had human ears and no tail."
"I do not!!" God slammed the table, red faced from either anger or shame. No one really knows.
"She did say her home world was Krieg." Ava meekly interjected to change the direction of their conversation. "Her mask and Krieg inspired aesthetics on her uniform made that pretty obvious."
"Acts like one too. All the flare and bullshit about dying being the greatest honor in the Imperium." Sheila denounced their new commissar.
"Better keep that to yourself or be gunned down for being heretical." Jack warned and joked simultaneously.
"As if. The previous commissar in charge of my regiment mysteriously disappeared before he could lay it on the colonels of the armored regiment." Sheila waved off the concerns with a surprising piece of fact.
