Kora's blue, silky curtains were ripped widely opened as her mom suddenly swayed and danced goofily around her room.

"Today is the dayyyy" Kora's mom sung.

"The one and only dayyyy"

Kora practically jumped out of bed. She had woken up in the middle of the night with the greatest, most craziest, so-unimaginably-stupid-yet-genius idea in the history of ideas. She knew what she was going to make, and it was very top secret.

As she sat at the kitchen table eating breakfast, Kora's dad walked down the stairs and pulled out a chair. Her mom made delicious scrambled eggs and toast, which was so good it was worthy of an award, in Kora's opinion. Kora and her dad talked about random things while her mom scurried around the house, collecting old recipe books and baking pans in preparation of the festival.

"So, did you decide what you were going to make for today?" her dad asked, while he took in a big bite of toast.

Kora grinned heavily at herself and said "yep, I chose to make lasagna with bacon and a salad."

Her dad matched her enthusiasm and replied, "woah, that sounds like a super important dish. Are you going to need any help with it?"

She could tell her dad wanted to spend time with her, and she could use the extra help. "Sure! And besides, I don't even know the first thing about baking a lasagna or how to use a stove."

Her mom walked over to the table as she was holding at least a hundred old looking books. "Kora, your aunt and cousins are coming over later to help with the festival. Can you make sure the house is organized before they get here?"

Kora nodded and said she would make sure it was clean after she finished her food. Kora's mom gave her a kiss on the head and thanked her before going back to what she was doing before. Her dad and her started making jokes about a movie they watched a while ago and they continued eating breakfast for the rest of the morning.
