THEO BARNES

Alex looks sick. He clutches his laptop to the point where his knuckles are white.

He looks like he is going to pass out.

"Alex?" He just stares. His eyes are wide open and tears start to fall. "Alex? What happened?" I start to move toward him.

"DON'T COME CLOSER!" He all but screams. He's shaking at this point.

"Alex, I—"

"It was your fault," he mumbles.

"What?"

"IT'S YOUR FAULT, I— YOU—," he can't even finish the sentence; he only makes an exasperated sound.

I don't know what to do or say.

What did I do wrong?

Tears are streaming down his face and I can't do anything to stop them. I clutch the fabric of my shirt near my heart and stand frozen. My eyes must be as wide as his are. Please don't cry, I want to say to him, but I can only stare. The nurse rushes in, a panicked look on her face. Alex runs out. My body won't even chase after him. I need to make sure he's alright. Dammit why won't I move?!

I don't see him the rest of the day.
