A month later (Epilogue pt. 3)
"Make sure you lock up before you go," I told one of my employees.I didn't want people trying to break into the soup kitchen while we were away. It seems extreme, but it's happened before.
When Mason and I found out who had broken into the soup kitchen, we decided not to press charges and provide them whatever they needed instead.
The world is full of hungry people without homes. And it broke my heart to see an elderly man just trying to give his famished dog something to eat.
But it also made us realize why we started this business in the first place. We wanted to help people like the elderly man and his dog, so they wouldn't have to go another night with empty bellies.
After leaving the building, I noticed Mason wasn't standing by his motorcycle like he said he would be. Looking right then left, I smiled when I saw Mason talking to one of the homeless people we serve throughout the week.
He was crouched down low, his hand in his wallet as he pulled out a wad of green bills and handed it to the woman. She smiled up at him, grateful for his generosity.
"I'll see you next week, okay Brenda?" She nodded and reached for a hug, which Mason gladly accepted.
The genuine smile on his face whenever he's interacting or helping people makes me fall in love with him more and more each day.
He didn't realize I was waiting outside for him until he stood up and started walking back the way be came. His smiled stretched even wider, his green eyes bright.
"You ready to go?" He asked once he was by my side. I nodded my head and he kissed my temple. "Just so you know, I'm driving."
"Yeah, yeah. Let's go."

Both Aya and Charlotte wanted to catch some new movie that the guys and some of their friends wanted to see. So Mason and I offered to babysit.
Neither one of us knew how challenging it would be to watch three young children all at once. And since Mason has had experience taking care of his nieces and nephew, we thought it would be a piece of cake.
But boy were we wrong as hell.
Within an hour, the house had been nearly trashed. There was cake powder, frosting, and all kinds of dishes on the counter from the cupcakes we made with the girls.
Toys are everywhere, Mason having stepped on one every five minutes. I know I shouldn't laugh at his pain, but it was hilarious. Kaden found it funny also, which only made me laugh harder.
"We should just go to the movie theater and give them back to their parents," Mason suggested, fed up and exhausted. The girls had painted his nails, colored in his tattoos with crayola markers and put little pigtails in his hair.
"We can't do that, babe," I reply, Kaden on my hip, the infant chewing and slobbering on the remote for the TV.
"Well what if we take them to your parents house? Or even mine?"
I shook my head. "We agreed to babysit, Mase. They will be here to pick them up in the morning." He sighed the two of us watching Ava and Riley run around our apartment. "How about you take Kaden and I'll take the girls."
It was time for the kids bedtime. And as the fun aunt and uncle we are, we made the mistake of coking them up on sugar moments before.
We thought hitting them with a sugar rush would tire them out and they would simply fall out. But that wasn't the case at all. They've been bouncing off the walls for the last two hours and Mason and I are at our wits end.
"Okay." Mason took Kaden from my arms while I ushered the girls into one of the guest rooms, so they can take their bathes and get ready for bed.
By the time all that had been done, I read Ava and Riley a story. I waited until they fell asleep, before tucking them in and leaving the room to clean up the kitchen.
Bolt and Lady both went into the girls room, leaving me alone in the main room. Which helped a lot because I was able to clean in peace.
After I'd finished straightening up, I went into my bedroom to check in on Mason. He was laying Kaden down carefully in our bed as not to wake him. He surrounded him with pillows so he wouldn't be able to roll off the bed, and slowly tip-toed out of the room.
Switching the light off, I shut the door behind me and followed Mason back into the living room.
He sighed heavily and dropped onto the couch. I laid down on top of him, a yawn forcing its way to the surface.
"Some weed sounds good right about now," he murmured, having difficulty keeping his eyes open.
With all the chaos that had ensued, weed would have been the perfect way to end the night. But it was just too risky with the kids around.
We finally have some alone time to ourselves and neither one of us can move. All of our energy had been zapped away trying to entertain and care for his nieces and nephew.
I'm not saying it wasn't fun, because it was. Those kids are amazing and I would do anything for them. It was just draining. That's all.
"I'm so sleepy," I mumbled, listening to Mason's heart thump. "I don't know how your parents did it."
"I don't know either. All I know is, I didn't make it any easier for them."
I chuckled at that. "I believe it." I, myself, wasn't too bad of a kid. I rebelled here and there, but it wasn't anything my parents couldn't handle. "Let's hope our kids get my personality and your good looks."
He chuckled, his chest rumbling beneath my head as he nodded in agreement. "Is that a hint for: you're pregnant?" He asked while playing in my hair.
"Hell no," I replied quickly. "I love you, but I'm not letting you put a baby in me until you put a ring on it first."
"Mrs. Harlynn Alaia Isaacs," he thought out loud. "Damn do I love the sound of that."
"I bet you do, Mason Everett Isaacs. I bet you do."
