On Wednesday, it rains. Which is rather fitting for how Mina feels. Maybe she was in denial, or shock yesterday, because it finally hits her that Tsuyu is with Shinsou.
Well, it hits her harder, atleast.
"Remember, it's not certain." Uraraka reminds her as they eat lunch under the big tree outside of U.A. — the same one they studied underneath a few days prior.
It's an interesting day to sit outside. It's raining heavily. The tree provides quite a bit of cover, but raindrops leak through and fall onto Uraraka's head every so often. Mina can't even laugh when it happens. She lays on the damp grass, burying her face in it, and wallows in self pity.
"Yes it is." A muffled reply comes back from the grass.
Uraraka lets out a frustrated sigh. It's not an 'I'm disappointed in you' sigh, more of a 'It annoys me you're giving up. Stop it' kind of sigh.
"I'm not going to let you give up." She pauses for a moment. "Um, just think, I lost to Bakugou in the arm wrestling match a couple days ago," She waits for Mina to give her attention, "and today I was going to totally crush him." She leaves out the 'but i'm sitting out here being a good friend while you're miserable.'
Uraraka continues. "Keep planning your stupidly over the top confession and get your girl!" Uraraka says — and Mina is reminded of just how supportive she can be.
Mina peers up at her from the ground. She's sitting cross-legged and munching on a Katsu Sando.
"You're too determined." Mina says. "It's annoying. Come down to my level. Give up." Mina says, grabbing her face and pulling her down to the grass.
"Hey!" Uraraka laughs, now laying on the floor with Mina, their foreheads touching.
"Join us, Uraraka. The self-pitiers."
Ochako laughs and buries her head in the grass. "Just for a bit." She says through the grass.
Mina breathes in the first burst of fresh air that she has in a while. Being with Uraraka is comforting. She breathes it in — the fresh air that is Uraraka's presence — and buries her head in the wet grass, trying to suppress her giggles.
She's lucky to have a friend like her.

The rainy day mood sticks with her like a ghost. She can feel it, but she can't see it. The world she sees around her is bustling with energy and excitement, but she can only feel disheartened. She hopes that it gets better with time.
Uraraka challenges Bakugou to another arm wrestling match right before their class with Kayama-sensei.
She loses again, ultimately. Then, Bakugou beats Kirishima, Kaminari and Jirou, who all put up a good fight. It's decided that Bakugou is unbeatable by them all, except Uraraka, who spurns the idea of giving up.
Mina gazes around the classroom in utter boredom — she never thought she'd be someone dying for class to start, but the thought of the study date lingers in her mind, and she'd rather be prepared.
Aizawa is late today — or everyones early, she doesn't know or care, really — and the students scattered around the classroom look just as bored as she is. Iida is disinterestedly listening to Midoriya ramble on about his favourite All Might action figure, Todoroki is reading quietly at the back of the room, Bakugou, Kaminari, Kirishima and Uraraka are crouching over Bakugou's desk, watching Kaminari fail time after time to the explosive boy and Momo is leaning over Todoroki's shoulder, inspecting the book he's reading and humming in amusement as he tries to swat her away.
Her eyes land on Tsuyu, who is scrolling through her phone quietly at her desk.
Mina takes time to appreciate her dark, forest green hair and pretty eyelashes. Today, her hair's pinned up and she's put on more makeup than usual.
Mina is delighted by her beauty, and finds herself staring at her for so long that she wonders why her hair is done so nicely, why she has makeup on, and why she's staring at her phone nervously.
Nice hair.
Makeup.
Mina thinks she might throw up. Is Tsuyu going on a date with Shinsou tonight? Surely not.
It's a poignant reminder that Tsuyu doesn't like her. That she is nothing more than a friend.
Mina, despite her jealousy, walks over to Tsuyu's desk.
"Tsu!" She calls, feigning happiness.
Tsuyu turns to her, almost startled by the pink girls yelling. "Oh, Ashido. Hello." She says, peeling her eyes away from her phone and setting it on her desk.
Mina sneaks a glance at it, seeing an open conversation. Printed at the top of the page, in all caps:
SHINSOU HITOSHI
Mina has to resist the urge to snatch the phone off her desk and write a strongly worded reply. Though, she can't even see what she would be replying to — she's too far to see the messages.
"What is it, Ashido?" Tsuyu asks calmly, followed by her signature 'kero'.
"Just seeing what you're doing. I like your makeup." She says, and she certainly isn't lying — Tsuyu truly does look beautiful.
"Thankyou," Tsu replies, almost bashfully, like she's ashamed to be wearing makeup, "I'm going somewhere tonight." She says.
"Cool!" Mina says, forcing a supportive smile. "Where are you going?"
"Some amusement park. Shinsou and I are going."
Mina feels like all the breath has been taken out of her lungs. She doesn't have the courage to ask if it's a date. She doesn't even have the courage to continue the conversation.
"Oh, wow." She says, kicking her foot against the floor nervously. "Sounds nice! Bye!"
Mina rests her head against her desk and wishes that this awful day will just finally end.
-
Mina crawls into bed that night in a bad mood. She feels hopeless and sad and so many more emotions that she can't quite put into words.
Jealous?
Maybe even scared?
Scared that for once in her life, she doesn't have that same courage and spirit. That for once, something has weighed her down — affected her that much — to make her feel this hopeless.
A/N: Might include some spelling mistakes as I haven't looked over this chapter yet, but I'll hopefully find some time (and inspiration lol) to correct them soon.
I kinda wanted this chapter to reflect just how close Mina and Uraraka are, and that was fun to write.
Also I'm in love with the idea of Ochako being part of the Bakusquad.
I hope this chapter was okay!! thanks for reading :)
