Was James really standing there? Or was I dreaming?
I opened the front door of my house, and when I did, standing there was my older brother, James. He had that huge smile on his face. His short brunette hair was neatly combed to the side, and he was dressed in the Metallica tee I bought him, before he moved to California. Standing by his side was his wife, Elizabeth. Just like the first time I met her, she had her strawberry blonde hair curled beautifully.
I stood there for about 10 seconds, not sure whether I should hug him, or if I'm hallucinating the whole thing. Finally, I put my arms around his waist and I hugged him for about a minute.
I heard Mom and Dad putting everything in the kitchen down, and heading towards the door, to welcome my brother home. I didn't want to let him go, but it seemed childish of me to just hang on like my life depended on it.
Once we exchanged hugs, we sat down at the kitchen table, and discussed any questions we had.
James told us about the nice 2 bedroom condo him and Elizabeth purchased in L.A., which according to him, was super amazing! We discussed James job at a local news station, and how he was one of the people who wrote each news story, every night.
While James talked, I kept imagining how great his life in California must be like, with the beautiful beaches, where the sand is nice and warm, and laying under the sun. It must have also been great, getting to see celebrities walk around all the time!
Eventually, I decided to stop being weird and said, "So you wore the Metallica shirt I bought you!"
"Hell yeah. Elizabeth kept saying I should put on something nice, but I told her you would love it if I wore it." he explained.
"Are you two planning on having any kids, any time soon?" Mom asked, with a huge grin appearing on her face.
"No I don't think so. I mean, we want to enjoy our marriage for a little bit longer, and travel before we decide to settle down and have kids." While James spoke, he held Elizabeth's hand, trying to show how much love they felt towards each other.
"Well don't wait too long. That's what me and your father did. He practically stop producing sperm when we wanted kids!" Mom joked, grossing out James and I.
"Oh god Mom! You're so disgusting!" added James and I in disgust!
"Anyways! I'm going to go show James my room!" I said, excusing myself from the table. "James, you're going to love what I have!"
And indeed he was. When we entered my room, he gasped with what I had covering my walls.
All throughout my room, I had about 20 posters of about 5 different bands, from Fleetwood Mac, to Queen, to Pearl Jam, to The Rolling Stones, and so on. On one specific wall, I had a huge shelf filled with some of James' old video games, CD's, and even a signed photo from Stevie Nicks. Next to my tv, I had a giant stack of complete seasons of animes.
"I can tell you still have a huge interest in anime...... and rock music!" joked James, looking around the room, examining each poster, and CD's stacked on the shelf.
"Yeah, but Mom and Dad kind of hate it. They practically blame you for all of the things I'm into." I explained, lifting my bed sheets, and pulling out a box filled with comics.
"I don't mean to offend you Maddie, but I feel like I'm in a boy's room."
"I know, and I don't care. But just as an FYI, I'm not lesbian! I pretty much worship Leonardo Dicaprio." I laughed.
"That's good, I mean there's nothing wrong with being lesbian, but you used to have a thing for my friend, Eli." said James, looking through the box, and pulling out a Batman comic, with Harley Quinn on the cover. "I used to literally masturbate to her!"
