Travis' P.O.V.
I walked down the hall with the four cards in my hands. How would I even explain this to Sal's friends? I know he would understand after that conversation, but the others?
I stopped walking when I saw Sal, Larry, Todd, and Ashley all talking by their lockers. I suddenly didn't want to do this anymore. I felt like some kind of burden right now, trying to talk with the people I've been horrible too like I never did anything. "Hey, Travis!" I heard Sal call out, interrupting me from my thoughts.
I realized I had been staring at them, now my feet felt heavy as I walked over to the group. Larry wasn't seeming to be taking his eyes off me. "I know I haven't been the best to you all.." I started, holding out the cards. "But I want to make things better. My parents are out of town for a bit. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out." My voice got quiet as I tried my best to avoid eye contact with the offer now out.
I looked as Sal Fisher took the four cards from my hand. "Thanks, Travis. We'll try to be there." He told me before looking at his friends, who began to look unsure at each other. The Johnson finally took his gaze off me.
As I walked off, I heard the group all talking. I heard Larry the most. Should I really have done this? Maybe Sal would be the only one to ever forgive me.
As I got back to class, the day seemed to just drag on terribly slowly. Why? Why couldn't the clock go any faster? Sure, I wasn't excited about what might end up coming, but I was anxious to see who would even come over. Most of all though, I was anxious about my father finding out.
I need to stop thinking about that, I know. But I can't help it. I just hoped someone I could make amends with came.
Soon enough, the school bell rang. I quickly got up and out of the building, taking my stuff with me as I made my way home.
