A tense silence still remained as you finally found the exit of the hall.

It was a secret facility, hidden in the stomach of the mountain.

Fresh, warm air stroked your face as you got close enough and crouched behind some piled up boxes to hide from the workers that went and came through the giant open doors.

The stars already faded and a hint of sunlight appeared on the horizon.

That meant you had wasted hours. Too many.

Your eyes wanted through the night.

There weren't people out standing guard. However, the exit was. And it seemed like it was the only way out.

"Shit...", you hissed and leaned back to avoid being seen.

Ghost risked a glance as well.

"What's the plan?", he asked.

Confused, you frowned.

"Since when do you want to let me do my job?", you asked in a bitter way and gifted him a deadly glance.

Something between a sigh and a growl got stuck in his throat.

He let the opportunity pass to start an argument and let out a deep breath instead.

"Take the risk.", he just said and slipped to the other side of the pile to have more room to move. "There's another door."

"It might be locked."

"Worth a try.", with his head pulled in he started to head for the door.

It didn't bother you to see him take the lead in a risky matter, you did this all the time yourself. What you hated to see was that he seemed to think he was just as skilled as you in taking those risks.

He was a man of immense size with dozens of extra weight in gear. Spotting him would have been easy.

And yet, he managed to make it all the way to the door without being seen.

Quickly, he checked if there was a way out.

It was locked.

Ghost turned to meet your eyes. He did a gesture, indicating for you to get over to him and lend a helping hand.

You rolled your eyes.

But you joined him anyways.

"Need my skills, huh?", you asked sarcastically and crouched in front of the lock. "Cover me."

"Hm.", he turned his back on you to have a better view of the area.

People still worked like nothing was going on. Maybe they were just unbothered by what was going on or they were delusional to their surroundings.

All they did was work. Like brainless ants.

With a glance over your shoulder you frowned.

"Anything odd, you think?", you asked.

Ghost didn't respond.

You gave him a little push.

An annoyed sound escaped him. He gently pushed back in a way of telling you to quit it.

You pushed again.

The sound of annoyance grew in him.

"I don't see anything.", Ghost simply growled. "Get this lock open."

Pulling a face, you turned your attention back to the task at hand.

One resistance was already gone and you could feel it tickling on your fingers that the second was about to burst as well.

But as the third was about to break the communicator on your chest started to make sounds.

Cold sweat crawled down your back as the fear of being caught washed over you.

"100, you copy?", Gaz's concerned voice asked.

Struck by his sudden presence, you flinched and almost cracked the wire that was still stuck in the lock.

"Fuckin' hell, Gaz.", you hissed into your communicator. "Keep it down, we're in the middle of something."

"Ha, did I interrupt you two?", there was amusement in his question.

An annoyed sound came from Ghost.

You could tell by the sheer sound that he rolled his eyes.

With a last flick of your wirst the third resistance broke in the lock.

Slowly, the door opened to reveal a hidden path that led up between huge rocks.

One glance over your shoulder and you took the lead to check out what was ahead.

"Path clear.", you hummed as you made it up the small hill.

Almost immediately, Ghost appeared next to you.

As soon as his white skull appeared on the corner of your eyes you flinched. Goosebumps grew all over your body.

"Bloody Jesus...", you whispered and moved on. "Keep your head low, Ghost. The cover is not that high."

"Hm."

It amazed you time and time again just how skilled the man was. Even though he walked right behind you, it was still hard for your ears to pick up the sounds of his movements.

While the mountain started to shrink in your back, you let your eyes wander through the desert.

Muffled Spanish voices filled the night.

Somebody yelled something.

At first it sounded like somebody had made a mistake while at work and got scolded for it.

But the more you concentrated on listening, the clearer it was that somebody was in clear distress.

As the last person was behind you, you got back up and started to run.

Not questioning your method, Ghost followed.

"Gaz, you copy?", you asked.

Silence.

Behind you, shots suddenly ripped through the air.

"Let's get outa here.", Ghost picked up a quicker speed.

Yet he didn't pass you. Instead, he remained running by your side.

You kept on running.

"Gaz!", you called through the radio again.

"Bravo 6 is listening.", Price's raspy voice replied. "We didn't hear from you in a while. Are you alright, 100?"

Used air already burned in your lungs.

"We're on the run, captain!", you managed to press out between clenched teeth while goosebumps of caution covered your entire body.

"Nearing pick-up point, captain.", Ghost said as he pulled you to the side to get you to follow him. "We're one click out!"

Disoriented, your eyes wandered up the red stone walls as you climbed after Ghost.

"Where the hell are you going, Ghost?", you asked, already out of breath.

Cold sweat covered your forehead.

In one quick movement he pulled you up to his level.

The exit point is on the other side.

Gunshots approached.

As you looked back shadows approached in a fast pace.

You could already see the car arrive.

"We're jumping.", you gasped.

"What?!", Ghost barley had enough time to wrap his hands around you before you hit him with full force to push him off the edge.
