mike wheeler rarely asked for help. the party could tell you that. he was stubborn and full of so much pride, you could practically feel it dripping out of his pores. this was especially true about his d&d campaigns. mike once got through d&d friday with a high fever of 103.4. he was to proud. and it was a quality the party had mixed feelings about. but that did not deny mike's right to get help.

so getting a call at 4:30 pm on d&d friday was super out of place. it was karen wheeler telling will to telling his mom that her, nancy, and holly would be out of town. they were havng a girls' trip. she sounded very excited. she also said something about checking up on mike, making sure he was eating since d&d friday was today and her only son was always too excited to eat. will reassured mrs wheeler that he would make sure mike ate. she hung up and will could just imagine the huge smile on her face.

lucas got the message first. he'd been packing his bag, ready to head over to mike's. he was excited to finish the end of mike and will's newest campaign. it was definitely one of the best ones the two of them had created. he hummed some song erica was obsessed with underneath his breath. he went to grab his walkie when it made a sound.

the garbled voice of mike wheeler came through, causing lucas to jump.

"can...can dnd friday be...at someone else's house...?"

d&d friday? at someone else's house? something was wrong.

that's when he got a second voice speaking through the walkie. "meet at my house. now." will sounded scared and a little bit on edge.

lucas had never run so fast in his life. (that was a lie. he'd run fast when his life was in danger because of the demogorgan and co.) he said goodbye to his family, tossing out an "i love you!" before sprinting to will byers' house. he felt anxious and he needed to know what was happening.

max had gottten the message second. she'd been at the skatepark, trying to perfect a trick. she was surprised to hear mike wheeler near tears asking if d&d friday cam be at someone else's house. she quickly went to respond. wanting to tell mike that her house wasn't the best place for a campaign. she found herself touching her neck, where a necklace of bruises rested.

mike's voice was now crying. she could hear it in his voice. "thanks, max..."

will byers' voice came next. there was panic in his voice. "meet at my house. now." the urgency in will's voice enough to send a shiver down her spine.

max placed her skateboard on the ground, ready to either kick someone's ass or be sick.

dustin henderson got the call third. he'd been biking to will's when he got it. it was weird. and it freaked dustin the fuck out.

he took a minute to process the strange message before shakily talking into the walkie. "mike, dude, is everything good?" no response.

will's message came in too quickly for anything to be alright. he felt sick to his stomach, wondering what the actual hell was happening?

he biked so fast to will's house. his heart hammering in his chest. he didn't even notice hopper's car already parked there. he threw his bike onto the lawn. he opened the door, ready for the worst.

he was not ready for the sight he saw in front of him. dustin henderson vomited on the floor.

turns out he wasn't ready.

mike wheeler was sporting a shit ton of bruises and a busted lip. he looked confused and tired. steve was there. for some reason. arguing with hopper about something.
