Everything's changing in middle school. You're growing more mature (or the other way around), you're dealing with more stress, and you're dealing with more conflicts at school. New friends, new people, but one thing stayed the same: their friendship. Y/n and Niki never stood apart from each other, no matter what the weather would bring them. It's hard to find a best friend like that nowadays, but I suppose it's not impossible to find one somehow.
On an empty soccer field, Niki smiles and runs towards her happily, glad to have finally finished practice after two hours. Every so carelessly, he uncomfortably throws his sweaty self towards Y/n and gives her a bear hug, giggling mischievously. "Hellloooooo~" he called out in a sing-song voice, only for her to whine about it. "You're sweaty!!! Ughhhhh.." she complained, though not letting go of her classmate. Always a big baby. She's gotten used to it by now.
After reaching his quota for cuddles, Niki finally let go and waved at his remaining teammates to rush their bottoms right where they were standing. The "teammates" in question were the two new kids in the school- Jake and Sunghoon. The more amiable one, Jake, waves from afar and drags the other one, the meaner one, Sunghoon(who rolled his eyes, seemingly NOT wanting to come with and just go home) with him, excited to meet new people as always. Being in a new school was hard, but with an outlook like Jake's (and not Sunghoon's), nothing could go wrong.
"Okay, so this is Jake. and this is Sunghoon." Niki introduced his new friends to Y/n, who quickly shook their hands with a soft giggle. The Jake kid was really sweet- he was attractive. He was the son-in-law every parent wanted. If you're feeling rebellious though, you could date Sunghoon. The cold "ice prince" everyone's talking about, who glares holes at people who tried to talk to him. Despite this though, he and Jake make really good friends.
"Hi there!!!! I'm Jake :) It's so nice to meet you. I hope we get along well!" The Jake kid introduces himself in the nicest and friendliest way possible, shaking Y/n's hands. She giggles at his attitude, slowly growing fond of this kid. "Me too!!" she told him gladly, before looking over at Sunghoon who glared at her. He reminded her of a cat somehow. After an awkward moment of silence, Sunghoon gives in and rolls his eyes, quickly extending his hand for a handshake whilst averting his gaze up to the sky. "Sunghoon."
"Nice to meet you, Sunghoon..." she looked into his eyes kindly and shook his hand firmly, nodding and letting go quickly. She's not too fond of him, but his cold demeanor makes her wanna know him more. The coldest and quietest people are the kindest, they say. Coughing loudly (in jealousy ahem), Niki stands in between the two boys and smiles at Y/n. "Why don't we all take a commemoration picture? You know, to celebrate the first day of our friendship??"
"We're not frie—" before he could continue what he was saying, Jake elbows him and makes him shut up, nodding in agreement with what Niki offered with a very angelic smile. "Sure sure! That would be such a fun thing to do, right Sunghoon?" he teased the other boy who just rolled his eyes, a small 'whatever' escaping his lips.
With that, Niki takes his yellow polaroid camera out of his gym bag, quickly making sure it has polaroids in, before taking a selfie with it. "Go! Go! Pumas!!!" The boy hollers out their soccer team's name and takes the picture, smiling widely into the camera. After the successful picture-taking, the camera ejects a polaroid film and while they wait and let it process, it starts raining.
Gasping in shock, Y/n instinctively holds the polaroid in her palm and covers the top of it with the other to avoid it from getting wet. The kids quickly rush back into the school and start bursting into laughter once they're in the boys' locker rooms. "Phew! That was close." Sunghoon laughed but quickly stopped when he noticed the three staring at him like they'd seen a ghost. "What?"
"No- it's just we thought you weren't capable of laughing or something.." Jake told him honestly, blinking quickly. "You guys are so mean to me.." Sunghoon crosses his arms, and looks away, leaning on the wall. Niki looks down at Y/n's hands and checks up on the polaroid. "Is it done?"
"Yes~ It's done! Come here boys!" she invited them, showing them the results of the polaroid. "I have successfully guarded it against the rain. You're welcome." she fake bowed, making Jake laugh. The polaroid processed perfectly- showing Niki with his arm around Y/n, smiling widely. Jake doing peace signs whilst Sunghoon just forced a smile at the camera. It looked so funny, so cute, seeing the variations of emotions between them. New friends, same school. Oh, how nice it felt to be young.
