"That's it!" Janson was livid. "She's interfering with the Trials! We're pulling her out!"

"Janson..." Teresa's voice was motherly and reprimanding.

"No!" He practically yelled. "She solved the Maze! We're testing the boys! I'm pulling her out!"

None of the others in the room spoke, so Janson took their silence as compliance and ordered, "Don't send up supplies today. They'll send her back or they'll all die. Their choice."

"You can't kill them all!" A brave woman stated. "We still need to them! They're too important to our work."

"Fine then!" Janson screamed. "If they don't send her back, I'll make them watch her die and we'll restart with the rest of them."

"Why wouldn't it be safe?" Janson dared the man to answer.

The man shoved his glasses further up his nose and avoided eye contact. "Well, the strain on their brains could interfere with their cognitive abilities and possibly disrupt the data. It could also have potentially dangerous side effects and could take more than just the intended memories."

"Than I suppose it's in their best interest that they do as they're told," Janson said with finality.
