Ben stood frozen in front of me.
"O Deus hominem occidisti," he muttered, beginning to pace on the grass. "Oh my God, you killed the man."
I swallowed and nodded.
"Yeah, I think I did. I thought I could express my inner thoughts and feelings here."
"Let's go."
Ben yanked my arm and took off running, away from the crowd that was beginning to form around Cunnus's body.
He led me to a massive, windowless gray building. It was about two stories tall and looked like a big square. We walked through a black door in the front of the building and down a narrow corridor to a door. Ben opened it without hesitation and beckoned me inside.
The room was surprisingly nice. The floors were polished gray linoleum and the walls were aqua. I would have expected our rooms to look like a fairy tale dungeon, not a Colored room. In the center of the room was a whiteboard, and projector, and a screen that read "SLEEPING QUARTERS FOR NEW TRAINEES: YOUNG MEN, FLICK LEFT, AND YOUNG WOMEN, FLICK RIGHT." I hesitantly walked up to the screen and flicked right.
"PLEASE STATE YOUR FIRST NAME," a voice from the projector said.
"Ventus," I replied, looking around. I felt uneasy talking to a computer, for some reason, as if it was about to lay down my life or something.
"Sheesh, no need to be nervous," Ben told me, standing next to me.
"WELCOME, VENTUS. YOU WILL BE SHARING A ROOM WITH PULCHRA AND CAPTIOSUS. YOUR TRAINING BEGINS AT EIGHT O' CLOCK TOMORROW MORNING . YOUR SCHEDULE WILL BE DELIVERED THEN. YOUR ROOM IS 014. THANK YOU."
The screen went back to its first state.
"Room zero-one-four," I muttered and glanced at Ben. "While we're there, you can tell me about training, you know, since I totally deserve it."
Ben just frowned and shook his head.
"How are you completely unaffected by the fact that you just killed a man, never mind Cunnus? He didn't have the best intentions, but he was just joking around, Ventus," Ben replied. My jaw nearly dropped. I'd killed Cunnus, yes, but I did it for him. How could he be so ungrateful?
"Honestly, I'm shocked. This whole time, I thought that you were on my side about the Cunnus thing. But I think that I was too quick to judge you and to think you were on my side, all because you showed me your tattoo. I had thought that everything we had was a personal thing, but clearly, I was wrong. You're not to be trusted, as a friend or boyfriend. Ben, your shadiness was what intrigued me at first, but now, it's what's pushing me away. Please... leave. For my sake and for yours," I replied, kind of amazed at the words that were spilling out of my obnoxious lips.
Ben shoved past me and slammed the door, leaving the building. So, I guess that went better than I thought. If he wanted to leave, I'll let him. He was the one who was in the wrong, not me.
