*Cover's Natsu's Ears*
It is revealed in Chapter 436 that Zeref goes out of his way to find an answer of life and death so he can find a way to bring his little brother, Natsu Dargneel, back to life, all the elders are against it but he ends up killing them all in accident(which he starts calling himself cursed). Zeref brought him back to life with all his research, his very powerful dark magic, and using the dead body of his younger brother(which he preserved with great care) all to create E.N.D. Also once he finishes his creation, Zeref greets himself as Zeref Dragneel, once Natsu awaken's. He manages to create the strongest demon and of course bringing his brother back to life.
