Well, the end of the day rolled around and he still hasn't done anything. Chicken. He keeps making excuses and avoiding her. What a moron.
But, Abby wasn't having that. She surprised us both when she grabbed James by the collar of his shirt and pulled him close, planting a kiss on his lips. James instantly turned into a tomato. Yep, Abby and I are going to get along great.
Life carried on and we all graduated. I never did see that boy again. Now and then he would cross my mind but I never really cared much about it. We all went to different colleges but would meet up every weekend. Life was pretty good. I focused on my studies and myself so dating wasn't on my to-do list. Abby was always annoyed by that. Then, we graduated college. Abby and James got married. A couple of years later, their baby girl came along. I moved into my apartment semi-close to my job. We still met up all the time. Abby was waiting to become an aunt. Always complaining that I need to find someone. James on the other hand just wanted me safe. He hated where my apartment was located. My neighbors, one specifically was not so good. James always tells me to call him if he tries anything. "Keep your distance. Don't let him in. Don't go anywhere alone with him. Don't let him touch you without us there."
I just got back from work since I only have to go in every once and a while. I started cleaning my apartment when my balcony door opened. I made my way around the corner of my kitchen to see a man. Covered in scars with staples on the edges, holding them to his skin. He seemed familiar to me. When I got closer, he was bleeding.
"T-two questions," I say while moving the duster up like it's some dangerous weapon to defend myself with. The man doesn't say anything. He just groans in response to the sound of my voice.
"One, what happened?" I manage to say without stuttering.
"Can you just shut up for one minute and get me some bandages?" he snarls at me while finally making eye contact.
Those eyes. I've seen them before. Little did I know that would change my life for better and for worse. Even though he warned me, I still did everything James said not to do. But, I'm glad I did. All the pain was worth it. I can't wait to see where life takes us.
