Donghyuck was taught to be a perfect omega mate to an alpha who chooses him. It happens to be a young alpha named Mark Lee who has a small business and just bought a house in a new district. Their relationship is comforting, but faint and causes many foreign feelings to the omega. He tries to talk it out with his neighbors and finds out that even when all of the omegas were taught the same things, they understand them differently. And the hardest must be that there are things the omegas have to learn themselves.
Donghyuck couldn't decide on his hairstyle for that day. As if on purpose, his hair, although always healthy and fluffy, was like an undisciplined child. He could hardly style it as every strand fell back into its place! He struggled until he chose to leave his hair as he would normally do—with his bangs and natural waves.
Glancing at the mirror, Donghyuck felt like something was still missing. He was natural, but it looked too bland! Looking around the room, scanning people around, he spotted one girl he knew would help. She just finished styling her hair and was ready to apply makeup.
"Hwan, could you lend me one of your hair clips?"
The omega girl nodded and opened the drawer of her vanity table, which was only a few tables away from Donghyuck. Searching her drawers, she pulled out a hair clip with cherry blossom imitation and showed it to the boy, receiving a nod from him.
"You're on display today, right?" she asked as she approached Donghyuck.
"Yeah... It's been a while," the boy giggled, shifting his eyes to the mirror in front of himself.
He observed as Hwan put on a hair clip in his hair and gasped at how pretty it looked.
"You're a lifesaver, Hwan!" Donghyuck said as he turned around and grabbed her hands.
The latter laughed, then got serious.
"Are you nervous?"
"More than ever," Donghyuck admitted. "Every time I'm on display, I'm nervous. But today... I'm nervous even more."
"It might really be your day," the girl smiled.
She walked away to do her makeup which reminded Donghyuck of putting a little bit of something too. Since he had a pretty skin color, he skipped foundation and applied glittery eye shadow instead. Just as he made his eyes stand out, the bell rang, and the omegas had to rush to stand in front of their beds. Donghyuck struggled a little to clean his table but came to his spot just in time.
The door opened, and a pretty beta lady came in. She looked around the room, at how they made their beds and how neatly they took care of their room. Noticing that everything looked fine enough, she smiled at them and asked them to come out for breakfast.
One after another, in age order, they left the room and came downstairs to a wider room—the cafeteria. There they could finally spread, which Donghyuck did as soon as he saw Renjun. Joining him at the small table at the very corner of the cafeteria, Donghyuck let out the deepest sigh.
"Hey, are you skipping breakfast?" Renjun's eyes went wide. "You can't do that!"
"I'm just too nervous," Donghyuck giggled. "Better say if I look pretty today."
"As always," Renjun mumbled as he looked down at his food.
"Hey," Donghyuck mumbled. Noticing that Renjun ignored him, the boy slightly touched the other omega's hand. "Being on display doesn't always mean you're getting picked. Don't be sad. I'll still be here for you."
