Christmas break soon rolled around and whilst Calum was yet to introduce them to his new friend; he wanted to break him in slowly since the two of them were a bit much. They were spending the bit before Christmas together at the hoods. Luke was secretly thrilled because Joy and David were two of the nicest of people. They had got the train back and were picked up by Mr Hood who drove the four hours to where the Hoods lived, and had put up with the bickering that could only come from three boys. Slowly they had settled in, after a strict reminder that this was a muggle neighbourhood and that magic was illegal here for under age wizards. Luke wondered how they would all cope. He soon learnt that he would be the only one with the problem.

Forgetting that Calum was a half blood who had grown up here and Ashton was the only wizard in his family. So for numerous reasons, Luke locked his wand up in his suitcase because even with Ashtons little looks he found himself reaching for it on occasions that Calum called him lazy for. How was it his fault that levisosa was easier than getting up to reach for things. Honestly things got weird after that. Mali came home and she had brought a friend, an exchange student from America called Emma. She seemed nice enough to Luke who didn't quite get her lited drawl but it seemed that she was here to learn more about music producing, something Mali was also interested in since she hated her job already in the ministry however Ashton and Calum seemed to disagree with Luke statement

They both had lost their heads. Tripping over their feet, or each other in a desperate bid to grab her attention, which then lead to some sort of tongue tripping or flushing that Luke found himself having second hand embarrassment for them. It was the sort of behaviour he expected from Jack when Ben brought home a bunch of friends. Some were girls. He was sort of tempted to bring it up. Make a snide joke about their seemingly silly little crush and see if his friends would realise how irritating they were being. Alas he didn't want to be rude to Emma who had been nothing but nice to him, as apparently he reminded her of her own young brother which in turn he felt sorry for the young brother because it was not normal for siblings to spend so much time being nice to each other.

Later one evening he was planning to bring it up. They were all in Calums room, Luke on the floor in a sleeping bag with one of his books he was reading for research having wanted to be ahead for next term. Cal and Ash were in the middle of changing into something comfy. Translation: we need to impress Emma whilst acting like we aren't. "So" Luke began lowering his book, "which one of you is the one you think she fancies". "Huh". "What".

"Well you are both trying so hard so she must have given you some indication" Luke let out a little smirk. "Well". "Err". "What's so special anyway she's just a girl?" Luke dug a little more. "I'm just being nice," Ashton tried to point out. "To my sister's mate?" Calum decided to turn it on Ashton whos jaw had dropped a little before he composed himself. Luke held back a laugh. "You pulled out her chair only at dinner" Ashton huffed. "Yes, out of respect obviously" Calum let out a nervous chuckle, "I mean, what about Lacey Maconish".

"Maconish, no idea what you're talking about" he said innocently. "Oh come on, it's rumoured that you were snogging her" Calum pries. Luke almost dropped his book. He didn't know why,  because snogging was certainly on the cards for someone Ashtons age, even someone his age but it gave him an iffy feeling. Ashton gave him a coy look. "No but I kissed her cheek though". "Oh, how scandalous, Irwin," Calum said, throwing the pillow at him as Luke ducked to avoid it when it missed its target completely. The next moment they both seemed to be wrestling not unlike his brothers so Luke left them to it. He felt childish and silly, having not noticed that Ashton had been going around kissing girls, or even liking them back. Maybe he should start being interested in them, it seemed to be the expected thing. Somehow he couldn't exactly picture himself kissing one.

He tried to turn his attention back to his book before Mrs Hood came in. "Boys settle down will you" her hands on her hips in the open doorway frown on her face. "Not you Luke, dear. These two hooligans " she added. "Sorry Mrs Hood" Ashton stood up, pulling down his shirt that had risen up. Luke may have snuck a glance at the slightly tanned skin. "Sorry mum" Calum added, reaching over to pick up the pillow that had missed Luke. "If you have so much energy to expend going into the yard and put it to good use by doing the de-weeding, if not try to sit or lay on the furniture rather than it do it to you" Joy added, surveilling the room which with three boys in looked like a hurricane had hit in rather violently. All three nodded their heads, "we can watch a movie, that would be cool right" Calum added quickly, both of them agreeing. "Lights off at ten please" which was code word for go to bed and sleep in mum speak.
