Love or Luck?

When Alyssa had seen Byron a year ago, she thought she had hit the jackpot. The real definition of tall masculine and handsome finally seemed to have a meaning. She kept seeing this young man on her social media and always wished they became friends one day. If I were a Christian, I'd say God was faithful to answer her prayers. If I were a Muslim, I'd simply say Alhamdulillah. If I were an evolutionist, I'd say Charles Darwin had done his thing to make days move fast and bring Byron closer to her as well as make his heart evolve to love her.

If I were a traditionalist, I'd say the ancestors had received her appeasement well and granted her the wishes of her heart. If I were you, or if you were me... in your current belief, what would you say when in less than a month, Byron had grown fond of Alyssa and even believed to be in love with her? If I tell you how it all happened, I'll be embarrassing Alyssa...but I love her so much. Anyway, lemme not pick sides here. My only job is to tell you everything.

Boredom is a bad thing and, trust me, it can even be a bad omen in African culture, if not the Bible culture. It was boredom that made Alyssa decide to gather all courage in the world and do the most stupid thing she did at her age. Here she was sending a message to Judy, Byron's friend. She did this because she knew Judy would soon pass the messages to Byron.

"Hey Judy, what's the name of your friend?"

She asked this with Byron's picture attached. I give her credit for being such a good investigator, you know why? Because the attached picture was once in Judy's socials. She was ready to answer that in case Judy asked her. The same picture she had found in Byron's socials...call her a little stalker. Judy was innocent enough to keep the conversation going without suspecting a thing. Alyssa went ahead to praise Byron on his cuteness, all the while getting into Judy's mind for her to talk to Byron.

Soon enough, Byron asked about Alyssa and made contact with her. In less than a month, they were in a relationship. Fast, right? Yeah, I know. But you know they say something about losing fast what you earn fast. Okay, lemme get back on track. It was hard for her to say yes but Byron was so convincing. The way he gave her compliments, the way he always talked to her, the way he said nice things about her to Judy and other friends. It all seemed right. What made her fall for it all was how he proposed to her.

Byron was more of an online date at the moment but Alyssa believed one day they would be together. She really hoped it would be sooner than later, and it was. One thing, however, made her hesitate in saying yes to Byron. Believe me or not when I tell you Alyssa was in another relationship when it all happened. All the sweet words and conversations she had with Byron, all the promises they made to each other, all the love they confessed.... wait, Alyssa had not confessed her love to Byron at this time, but she felt it, or so she thought.

By now you must be thinking, "a playgirl this one!".  I know I know. But let me tell you something. She was not. It was circumstances that led her to behave the ways she did. What Kyle had made her go through was more than embarrassing for her to admit, but she had to move on. What made her hesitate was nevertheless, more complicated than what you think.

Kyle had done what Alyssa thought would ever happen to her. What she thought only happened to bad people. What she thought only happened to people who believed in karma. She felt changed, yet unready for another relationship. Yet here she was, debating whether to give Byron a chance or heal first.
