"Kaite. Katie wake up." Dan lightly shakes my shoulder and I groan. "What time is it?" I look over to my alarm clock and immediately jump up. "SEVEN THIRTY!"
"Yea. Ugh. Sorry. Phil made breakfast." I sigh and pull myself out of bed.
~
"Phil I must say, you can cook." Dan laughs. "Only for breakfast. We normally order take away for dinner." I laugh at that and make my way to the kettle to make a cup of coffee.
It has been a couple of weeks since Dan and Phil adppted me and they are pretty awesome dudes. Still trying to figure out if they are just friends or more yet though.
I have looked on both their accounts on just about everything but there is nothing to show they are together so for now, I'm just gonna go with close friends.
"So." Phol begins, snapping me out of my little world. "We were hoping you wouldn't mind going to see a potential school today? It's quite small but seems nice enough."
I nod my head. "O-okay. I guess that's fine." Shit. I don't wanna go and look at shitty schools.
"Great. We have an appointment at half eight so we have just less than and hour." So that's why Dan woke me up so early.
~
"You must be Katie Howell?" I look up at my dads who nod. "Um. Yea. That's me."
The woman in front of us (I'm guessing the head teacher) smiles, claps her hands together and starts walking, gesturing for us to follow.
"We have a great deal of successful students here at Melborne High School. Our teachers all have had at least three years studying their subject so they are all highly qualified. We have a wonderful anti-bullying program so if you do choose to come here Katie, you can come to any of us teachers if you are being picked on."
That makes me feel a bit more comfortable. Anti-bullying school. Yea. I could see this working.
We are shown all of the classes and all of the kids seem to be working really hard with a few exceptions. The classes all have around twenty to thirty children in them and the teachers seem nice enough.
"And that concludes our tour. I hope you take out school into account when choosing where to send your... daughter." That! That right there is the head teacher of this school being homophobic. No matter how subtle it was, she doesn't like the fact I have two dads.
"Yeeaaa... I'll think about it." I say suspiciously.
We exit after Dan and Phil shake the lady's hand. "So, waddya think?" Dan asks with a smile plastered on his face.
"Nope." Is all I say and his face drops.
"What do you mean 'nope'? That school seems great."
"I mean nope. Didn't you realise the way she was staring you two down? She doesn't like the fact your gay." Dan and Phil look at each other.
"We-we're not gay Katie."
"Oh yeah! Then why did you adopt a kid?" I place my hands on my hips and Phil sighs.
"Okay. So we are gay. But you can't tell anyone. We are trying to stop all of our fans from thinking it."
"Okaaayy. And why is that?" Dan carries on for the two men.
"Because, they all ship us and try to find proof we are together and we don't want them to get solid proof. We are fine having a secret romance."
"Whatever. Anyway. I'm not going here. That woman was eyeing you two down like bugs. I don't wanna go to a school where people think dirt of my dads."
Phil smiles sympathetically at me which just makes me angry. "Phil! Don't give me that fucking look! I am sticking up for you and all you are doing is feeling sorry for me because of my past! I thought you wanted to give me a new life, not feel sorry for me because of my old one!"
Dan grabs my shoulder and I push him off. "Just. I need my space. Can we go home now?" I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
"Sure. Whatever." Phil mumbles and gets in the car.
~
"Maybe we should. Just to make sure." I listen through Dan's door to the conversation my Dads are having.
"Don't you think that's a bit extreme Dan? She is still settling in. Maybe it's just because she is getting used to everything. This is my fault. I kept feeling sorry for her and she noticed." There was a minute of silence before Dan broke it.
"Don't you dare blame yourself Phil. You did nothing wrong. You're probably right. She is still settling in. We need to give her some space." I give out a sigh of relief. Nothing is going to happen.
I don't know exactly what they were talking about but Dan was trying to suggest something. Anyway. Whatever it was isn't going to happen. I just need to forget it.
Hi. So. I have nothing to say. I am too ill.
Sorry for any spelling or gramatical inaccuracies within this chapter.
