"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" I groan, reluctantly pull my covers off me, and force my eyes open.
I am greeted by my Dads holding the small chocolate cake me and Dan bought with fourteen candles of different colours on it and I couldn't hide my grin.
"You guys are awesome." I stand up and embrace them in a hug. That's when Phil screamed.
"KATIE YOUR HAIR!" I pull away and look at my long blonde curls, small flames making their way up the light strands and I begin to panic.
I run into the bathroom and turn the tap on quickly, shoving the burnt hair under the gushing water.
Once the flames are put out and take my head away from the sink and look at my reflection in the mirror. My once blonde hair is now mostly singed and black and all I can do is laugh.
My Dads walk in, looks of confusion on their faces as I stand at the mirror laughing.
"Umm. Katie?" Dan asks as I manage to calm down, hands on my knees.
"Oh my god Katie your hair!" Phil exclaims and rushes over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist.
"Nah don't worry about it you two. I've been wanting to experiment with my hair anyway. You know, cut it. Maybe dye it a different colour." Both of the men let out a sigh of relief.
"Oh thank god. Well in that case, seeming as that is all over and done with do you want to come open your presents?" Dan asks and I nod, peeling Phil's arms away from me and heading into the lounge.
I sit on the couch and there before me, are several wrapped presents. I bite my lip to try and hide back my grin.
I failed.
Phil hands me one of the presents and I slowly start to open it. After a few seconds of careful peeling, I reveal a professional artist kit. It has everythig.
Pencils.
Coloured Pencils.
Paintbrushes.
Then Dan gives me the next present which is a box of thirty acrylic paints of differnt colours. I try to hold back the tears as I look up at my Dads who are sat on the floor either side of me, smiling.
"I love you two so much." I wipe my eyes and open the rest of my presents.
There were CDs from an array of artists such as Fall Out Boy, Muse, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco and Linkin Park.
Then there were posters from the bands as well as the four Dan and Phil posters. They make me laugh.
"I live with you two, why would I want you on my wall?" I giggle as my Dads laugh.
By the end of the present opening, I am in tears, so happy with my new family.
We head out to the shops to buy some hair dye for me, seeming as the tips of my hair are still black and I hate my blonde hair anyway.
"What kinda colour were you looking for Katie?" Dan asks as we search through the various colours and I shrug.
"Something subtle but bold. It sounds wierd." I continue to look through tye darker colours, nothing catching my eye.
"Is this any good?" Phil asks as he pulls out a box of pastel blue hair dye and I nod vigourusly.
"How do you do it Phil? You always get everything right." I grin and hug him and we make our way to the cash register.
Once we have bought it we go to the hairdressers and I get my hair cut a lot shorter than it was.
Most of my hair lays over my forehead in a fringe, the sides shaved as well as the back.
Once the hairdresser finishes I grin and show my Dads.
"Wow. Katie you look stunning." Dan says and I hug him.
We head home and get the dye out. Me sitting on the toilet seat as Dan and Phil quarrel about what substances go together.
Once they finally figure it out they massage it into my hair and I bounce my leg on the floor excitedly.
When it is done I wash it out and look in the mirror, fiddling with my curly fringe.
"Oh. My god. I look hot!" I laugh as I look to my parents as they grin.
"Happy birthday Katie."
I know I know. It's horrible. But all of you guys have been so supportive and I needed to write you something!
