Looking at the night sky, moonlight hitting my face while staring at the stars, admiring the shimmering sky above me. I sigh, I look around me and see familiar faces of the children I'm with. Some are the same age as mine, others are younger. We all have different stories but we have something in common, WE ARE ORPHANS.
They told me that one morning they found me in the front door of the orphanage with a name tag that are pinned in the cloth that envelopes my young body. My parents probably just left me.
Sometimes I question myself why? Why they left me? Maybe they are not ready to have me or just afraid of the responsibilities. Or the obvious reason, that they left me because I'm a freak. Look at me, I'm not normal because I have body parts that should not be in me. I'm born with a male part, my parents can't afford to have a freak child like me. I thought.
Sometimes I wonder if I have other siblings. If my parents thought about me at night. But one thing I believe, that they are still here. That they exist.
My name is Lauren Jauregui, 9 yrs. Old and this is my story.
-----------------------
"Those people want to adopt you Lauren. Mr. And Mrs. Martinez are good people." Sis. Sarah told me, "sister I don't need another family, I have my family they're just not here."
Sis. Sarah sighs, "Lauren, every child needs a parent that will take care of them. You need to be in a functional family."
"But sister all of you are my family, and all of you are functional." I said. "I don't need another brother or sister, I have it in here 16 to be exact" I laugh. I don't need to be adopted, I don't want to be put in another family where in my true family is somewhere out there. "Please sister, can you just give the opportunity to other children that wants to have a family." I said.
"Lauren that is so nice, but don't you really want to." Sis. Sarah smiled. I nodded excitedly and look at the clock. "Sister can I go to our room now." "Okay, but think about what I said." Sis. Sarah said. "Okay!" I said then I exit the office.
I have only two possessions in here, one is my guitar, second is my song book. I get it both and run outside of the orphanage. I walk two blocks away to a park and sit in the same bench I usually sat in the last two years that I have been doing this.
I look across the street wherein the music school stood.
I strum my guitar and hum. I wait, wait and wait. I see the red Cadillac car. I see her walk outside the car, her porcelain skin, wave silky hair and those beautiful brown eyes. I think we're just the same age. She hold the hand of an older woman, probably her mother.
I put down my guitar and stand up on the bench that I'm sitting on to have a better view of the girl.
I stare at her wishing that she will look at my way. I stood there until she went inside of the building.
I see the door close behind her. I smile contentedly and step down the bench. I gather my belongings and hum as I walk back home happily to the orphanage.
I know in that moment that my day is complete.
