"HEY, HEY MY LOVE, It will be alright. This will pass," A whisper crawled from Elizabeth Woodville's petite lips, her usual rosey colour fading to a brighter white, as she ran the underside of her soft palm across his wetting forehead. "Just stay calm, stay quiet. You are a good king, God will forgive you of these sins for which you are being punished. Blessed be those that are aiding you at this moment. It will be alright, my dear," A weak smile faulted upon the brunette's lips. Her uncertainty was cleverly and carefully concealed, for she was certain she would loose him. All the aging Queen knew was how to comfort, console, and care for the man beside her.
Elizabeth lowered, placing her knees upon the the cold wooden planks coating the room, each one sending a sharp sting up her thighs, as she took the hand on her beloved, upon his deathbed.
"I love you, Eddie," she whispered, her fingers wrapping tightly around his, a subtle squeeze reminding her of the days and nights he used to hold her, that feeling of warmth and comfort that kept her safe in those raging times.
Watching him attempt to stumble over his words, as he mumbles an "I-", she instinctively pushed herself up, and forward. She leaned over, lowering herself once more, leaving a kiss on the tip of his nose. "Stay Quiet my love. Save your energy. We'll get through this, you're strong, you're brave, you're my King, and the best lover and father I could ever have imagined," a slow ridden tear softly escaped the brunette's eyelid, it gently gliding down, and falling to his chest. "Always in here," her hand ran down to his chest, her palm resting above where his heart lay. She dipped her head once more, to place a lingering kiss upon her husband's chilling lips. Her other hand tightened her grip around his hand, fulfilling him in one last embracement that she knew the rest of his body would not be able to take in that moment; her last act of love.
As she let her lips leave his, her forehead fell forwards, resting it against that of her husbands. "I love you, Eddie." She keep her tone a whisper. "I, Elizabeth Woodville, love you, King Edward Plantagenet," Her eyes were forced shut, containing the tears coursing through her veins. She let a few moments pass, allowing her eyes to dry as much as possible in the little time she had. "I love you," she managed. Her distant hand from his chest now lay a rest his temple, her dainty thumb caressing the edges of his locks.
She wanted those to be the last he heard; I love you.
Even when it was clear he had slipped away, the words kept falling from her tongue. I love you, Edward. I love you.
