(POV:Writer(Me))

La Muerte and Xibalba took a walk around the cemetery enjoying each other's presence and the Day of the Dead festivities. As they walked Xibalba complained about how horrible the Land of the Forgotten was and how he wanted to switch. La Muerte refused until he offered her something that filled her with excitement...a wager. They had betted on the love life of a little girl named Y/n, who seemed to have both of her friends in love with her.

The wager was set, the boy who married Y/n would determine who would rule the Land of the Remembered. They shook hands putting the wager in place, letting the life of three little unknowing kids determine the world's fate.

-"Let's go give them our blessing" both rulers transformed into regular people and walked to give a blessing to their chosen champions.

-POV Change-

(POV:Reader)

I sat on one of the tombstones, listening to Manolo play the guitar and watching Joaquin practice with his sword.

-"Fear not señorita, your hero has arrived!" Joaquin declared, standing in front of Manolo posing.

-"Is that so?" I asked, looking at him questioningly.

-"How dare you interrupt a...guitarrista!" Manolo played a few notes on his guitar.

They began to fight, dodging, swinging the fake sword around and the guitar. Manolo moved out of the way and came to where I was sitting when Joaquin fell on the ground.

-"HA!" Joaquin said after pushing Manolo onto the ground, taking his spot near me.

-"The girl is mine!"

-"Never!" I rolled my eyes at their childness and got down splitting them up.

-"I belong to no one!" I declared making it clear to them to which they both nodded.

We walked around the cemetery, looking at the pretty tombstones that had been decorated for Day of the dead.

-"That one is pretty!" I pointed at one that was colorfully decorated with marigolds and roses.

-"Hey Y/n, weren't you grounded?" Manolo asked me as we continued our walk.

-"You know how my father is, always overreacting" I shrugged.

-"How was I supposed to know that chickens don't like baths?" one of the chickens from that day passed by spitting out bubbles, causing all three of us to laugh.

-"Don't worry, he knows a real man is protecting you tonight!" Joaquin pointed at himself.

-"Who?" I asked smirking, causing Manolo to laugh.

-"Me, I have a mustache!"

-"Yeah, just like your grandma!" Manolo and I patted his back causing his fake mustache to fall. We all laughed as Joaquin tried to put it back on, which only resulted in it falling sideways.

-"Y/N!"

-"Manolo!"

Manolo's father called him as well as mine, we bid Joaquin a goodnight and rushed off to see what they wanted. Which unlucky for me was a punishment for sneaking out of the house when I was supposed to be grounded. Although I don't like the extra punishment, I had fun tonight so I would have done it again... and probably will tomorrow.

-"Y/n, you have got to mature up and learn some responsibility" my father scolded me at dinner time.

He always gave the same speech, I mimicked him as he walked around the room making gestures and giving me examples. I always got into the same misunderstood mischief, and of course dragged Manolo and Joaquin along with me. I did the wrong things for the right reasons, or at least I thought they were right.
