STEVE RUSHED OVER TO THE DEAD GUARD and pulled his keys from his belt. Rebecca walked over as one of the prisoners initiated a question. "Who are you supposed to be?" asked a gruff voice.
"I'm Captain America," returned Steve, standing up quickly. He looked at Rebecca, then looked around for any more guards frantically.
"I.. beg your pardon?" said another one of the men, confused.
He tossed Rebecca the keys and she caught them, then rushed down the metal stairs next to her. Steve followed, and she dug the key into the lock nearest her and let the prisoners out. Steve stood beside her, watching their faces as they filed out the door. Many of them looked her up and down, confused.
"Who's the lady?" asked one of them, smirking slightly. She could just see the outline of his features in the minimal light.
"Private Rebecca Cooper," she told him, not looking into his eyes.
He raised his brows and continued walking. Rebecca moved aside and proceeded unlocking the rest of the cage doors.
"What, are we taking everybody?" asked another man, who had a bushy mustache and a bowler hat, looking at an Japanese man. He stared back at the bowler hat man, pulling out his dog tags from under his shirt.
"I'm from Fresno, Ace," he retorted.
"Is there anyone else?" Steve interrupted, walking between them. "I'm looking for a Sergeant James Barnes." He made his way towards the exit, Bex at his side. The rest of the prisoners followed him out.
"There's an isolation ward in the factory, but no one's ever come back from it," explained a man with a French accent. He wore a red beret— one of the few colors in the dark prison room.
"All right," muttered Steve quietly. Rebecca could tell by his look that he was forming a plan in his head. "The tree line is north west, 80 yards past the gate," he began, louder, so that more of the soldiers could hear. "Get out fast and give 'em hell." He walked past the large group of men behind him and nodded for Rebecca to come along. "We'll meet you guys in the clearing with anybody else we find." He turned around, but one of them called after them.
"Wait," said a voice. They both jerked back around to find the men's concerned faces. "You know what you're doing?"
"Yeah," said Steve. "I've knocked out Adolf Hitler over 200 times." He turned around immediately, leaving the soldiers to take in his previous sentence. Bex snickered at they jogged out, every face watching them.
"Are you ready?" Steve asked her. "They know we're here now."
"Hey, I mean, gun's loaded," she said, patting her holster. "There's only so much we can do."
