I woke up the next morning, rubbing my eyes hard and yawning. It would've been just like any other day, but then I remembered where I was, and smiled, jumping out of the bed.

Alex and I had put together the pieces of my bed, but by the time we had finished mine and had to do Alex's, we had run out of evergy, so he simply crashed on the flowery disaster of the couch.

He was still passed out on the couch, his mouth very slightly opened, his arms strewn out. He was exhausted.

I stared at the clock which I had put onto a mountain of half-empty boxes. It was 12 in the morning, and I wasn't in the mood for wasting the day.

"Alexxxxx" I called out cheerfully, in a way that I would've found annoying if I was in Alex's place.  "Wake uppp"

He didn't budge, but groaned.

"Alex. Get out of bed" I demanded. "Stop being lazy and wake up."

He turned over onto his side, muttering something about how I was a menace to society.

"Oh, really, Alex?" I walked towards him and pulled his leg, accidentally tugging him off of the couch.

The couch wasn't that high up, he was fine. At least I think he was.

ALex stood up, rolling his eyes. "Jesus Christ, Avril, what was the point of that."

"I'm sorry." I apologized sincerely. I did mean it. "That's what you get for not contributing anything to society," I told him cheerily, before walking off.

"I can't stand you sometimes" Alex muttered, before getting off to do his own thing.

It was bright and sunny outside, but not too hot. It was just the right weather. I felt like that day was going to be a very good day.

There were so many things that I needed to do; I had to mop and continue unpacking, but all of the possibilities of adventure outside were too much to resist. I wanted to go outside and see the city for myself.

"Hey Alex, I'm going outside. Do you want to come too?" I called out as I slid on my jacket. It would probably be too warm outside for that jacket, but I couldn't care less. I would wear it even if I meant that I would get heatstroke. I cared more about how my outfits looked rather than how comfortable they were.

I really liked that jacket; it was a leopard print one, and it was sleek and soft. I saw it in the window of the store a few towns away from the one that I had moved to New York from, and I really wanted it. However, it was expensive, but I was determined to get that jacket.

I would do as many odd jobs around the neighborhood as I could; walking dogs, shoveling the snow on sidewalks, and painting fences. (Alex would help me; thanks, man). I ended up getting a job at a Mexican restaurant, which I hated, but at least I got paid.

Eventually, I had got enough money for the jacket, and I was ecstatic. Once school was over that day, I hopped onto my bicycle and rode straight to the town where it was being sold. It was a long ride on the bicycle, and my muscles were numb and aching by the time I arrived there, but at least I could get the jacket.

"I'm coming in a few minutes," Alex replied from the kitchen. "Do you want a cup of coffee?"

"No, thanks, I'm fine" I reapplied a layer of cherry-red lipstick and checked to make sure that my eye makeup wasn't smudged. I looked fine.

Alex came out, running his fingers through his hair. "I'm ready."

"Yes! Finally" I exclaimed. Excitedly, I dashed out of the door, running towards the elevator and pressing the button.
