Always Expect the Unexpected

The Proposal

So while I was back in Atlanta, I invited Tasha's family to Costa Rica for my big announcement to Tasha. Everyone knew what was going on except my Baby. I'm planning on cooking a big dinner tonight and her family is just suppose to "show up" out the blue. I also invited my family to come down as well. I know Tasha is going to be amazed at all of this. I just hope everything goes as planned.

Two hours later
"Baby what you cooking down here? It smells so good", Tasha calls out to me. I smile at her beauty and say, "Oh nothing special. Just some of your favorites Baby." "Aww your so sweet Caliph. But why are you cooking so much of everything Baby? It's just the three of us." I just look at her and smile. Jada runs in calling Tasha. "Mommy pick me up." A while back we told Jada, if she wanted to, she could refer to Tasha as Mommy. She smiled and said, "I already call her Mommy." Tasha picks her up and starts tickling her. I smile at the both of them, knowing that I'm making the right decision by making this big announcement. I hear the doorbell ring and Tasha say, "Jada I wonder who is at the door." I hear her scream out, "Mama what y'all doing here?" Her mom just replies by saying, "Surprise!" I hear everyone walk in and greet both Tasha and Jada. I put the finishing touches on the food and go out to join them. Tasha smiles at me and says, "I told my mom we were going on a little vacation but I didn't tell her where . So I wonder how they found out the exact location and address to where we were?" I just smile as she continues. "So that's why you were cooking so much food? You expected more than just me, you, and Jada to eat." "Just admit that I got you Tasha Wright." We both began to laugh along with everybody else. "Okay. You got me Caliph Gaines." I kiss her and whisper in her ear, "Get ready for your surprise Baby." She whispers back, "I thought this was my surprise." I wink at her and announce that dinner is ready. During dinner Tasha's family got along great with my family, which was no surprise to me because our families have very strong similarities. I planned on making my big announcement during dessert and it was approaching slowly but surely. I stand to make a toast and began to say, "I would like to thank everyone for making this long trip to surprise Tasha. For all of you who didn't know, Tasha and I have been together for 5 months today. Our 5 month anniversary is one to celebrate and remember because not only did I get you gifts, but so did Princess Jada." I call out to Jada and she is holding it out to Tasha saying, "Read it out loud Mommy." Tasha begins to read the letter.
"Dear Mommy,
You couldn't have came into our lives at any other time. God's timing was perfect. Although I lost my mother when I was an infant, since day one you have been a consistent focal point in my life. I don't think you know that you gained my love before you even gained my fathers. I saw the mother in you and instantly fell in love with you. I know you feel the same way with me. My dad and I love you so much and we want you to be with us forever. We have a question for you, but first you have to see the cute shirt I have on underneath the one I already have on. And yes Mommy, Daddy made me put on two shirts."
Tasha gives me the side eye then begins to pull off Jada's shirt. She starts to read it, then she stops and covers up her mouth looking at me crying. Someone asks, "Tasha what does it say? Read it out loud girl." Tasha starts to read it and says, "Mommy will you marry my daddy and become my mommy forever?" I began to walk over to her. Once I reach her I began to say, "You love, respect, and support me no matter what the circumstance may be. You love my daughter with everything in you. I just can't let you walk around here freely without making you my wife. I would be crazy to give hope to another man when right here is where I need you to be." So Tasha Nicole Wright, will you marry me?" She wipes her eyes, smiles and says, "Yes Baby, Yes!" I slide the eight-karat, diamond cut, and heart-shaped engagement ring onto her finger. Then I pull her up and hug and kiss her. Jada pulls on us saying, "Mommy thank you for saying yes!" Tasha bends down and picks Jada up kissing her all over her face saying, "Aww you're welcome." She looks at me with this amazing glow and she adds, "I'd do anything for my two favorite people." I glanced around the room and there wasn't a dry eye in sight. I look over to her dad and he gives me a head nod; giving me his second approval. I look back at my fiancé and say to her, "I love you Tasha Wright-Gaines to be." She kisses me and says, "I love you too Caliph Gaines. I can't wait to become your wife." Even though I know we both are going to want a six/seven month engagement, I smile and say to her, "And I can't wait to become your husband." Life couldn't get any better for our family at this point.
