As I came back into consciousness, the room was quiet—not in an uncanny way, but a silence that shielded us from second-guessing every crumbling rock for the enemy's movement and blocked out the ominous murmur of fire. Here, the only sound to fill my ears was the rubbing of covers and soft breaths of Emiya and me.
My eyelids parted, not to open but to peak through the blinds. There was a debate going on in my head on whether to wake up or continue sleeping—the side of sleep was making a compelling augment. I had no idea how long I'd been asleep but felt I could risk a few more hours. No enemy had stalked into the house and killed us yet.
I glanced around the room just to reassure myself the peace was real—it was. The room was clear, nothing stirred beyond the walls. Though, it was the stirring of something else that caught my attention. Or someone else, I should say.
Emiya's head shifted slightly on my chest, his hair tickling my collarbone. Somewhere during our sleep, his position had changed. His head was on my chest, and under the covers, an arm laid limply across my waist with the weight of one of his legs warmly pressed atop mine. The changes were small but caught my attention nonetheless, and I couldn't help but watch him in a silent trance as Emiya's hand lifted out of the covers, fingers slowly tracing the gold lacing of my shirt. His eyes were open with drooped lashes, watching his finger's movements.
Then the hand went still, thinking for a moment. Pulling his hand in, Emiya's index finger traced along the line of his lips thoughtfully. My breath felt heavy with him on my chest, eyes taking note of every shift and press of his finger against those lips. It didn't take a whole lot of imagination to guess the thoughts roaming through his mind at that moment. I tried to keep myself from guessing anyways, dragging my gaze back like a disobeying dog. The hand fell down pressing warmly to my pec, wrinkling the black fabric under it. With a puff of a sigh, Emiya turned his head more snuggly against me, closing his eyes and burrowing back into sleep.
I released a breath, my limbs tingling with a strange urgency to move, just to shift my position. I kept them still though. Holding myself there as an uncomfortable pressure built up. Then, when I was sure Emiya had fallen back asleep, I released my arm, allowing it to curl up against Emiya, hand pressing to the small of his back. After a moment of staring up at the simple ceiling, I closed my eyes again.
I hardly even realized I'd fallen asleep before I jerked awake. Bolting upright, my mind went straight to Emiya who was absent from the room. My heart was pattering for unknown reasons. A forgotten dream perhaps. Curling my fingers into the blanket, I strained my ear to listen, picking up on some movement further in the house. Shocked Emiya got out of bed before me, especially after an elephant trampled his legs.
Throwing off the blanket, I stood up from the futon stretching. One thing was for sure, that was a damn good sleep! It felt so nice to have a comfortably stocked mana supply after I came a breath away from disappearing. Then I remembered whose mana it was that saved me. My stomach prickled with the thought. Emiya and I kissed. I swallowed the saliva flowing in my mouth, opening the bedroom door.
I froze. There was a scent in the air, a combination of different flavors that I couldn't pick out. But one thing was for certain, it smelled fantastic! I turned the corner, my feet following the sound of a spoon scraping around a pan. Resting up against the doorway, I glanced into the kitchen.
Emiya was leaning against the counter, spooning a sauce from a pan into a bowl of noodles. Waist cape and arm guards discarded, he adorned an apron of all things. Emiya awkwardly shifted his weight between his feet. No doubt they were still sore, but they were at least properly aligned now. There was a focused glint in his eye as he watched the sauce flow, as if at the moment, the food was the only thing in his world. He didn't even give me a glance of recognition as I quietly stepped into the room.
